Good evening, today is Friday, September 30th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
The Presidio Police Department reported on Facebook Friday that it responded to a 911 call about an active shooter at Presidio High School Thursday that turned out to be a hoax.
The caller reported that he witnessed an individual carrying an AR-15 rifle, shots had been fired and that approximately ten people were wounded in the building.
The school police officer on campus told responding officers that nothing was going on but law enforcement responded immediately and cleared the building.
The 911 call originated from an un-traceable number on the Internet.
The incident mimics a number of similar calls around the state, including in Midland-Odessa, making false claims of active-shooters in schools.

The raffle happened live on KVLF at 9:40 a.m. Friday when Emery’s ticket was selected randomly out of the 300 entries.
The Gun Raffle will help the Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Gathering hire top-name performers for the gathering on February 17 and 18 in Alpine.
Author Ben English said during the raffle that the gathering is a great opportunity for those passionate about Cowboy Poetry.
English: “I am excited. I think this is a very important event for the community of Alpine, for cowboy poetry and for this part of Texas. I cannot think of a better place to have it.”
Tickets are now are available for members and sponsors and the general public starting tomorrow to attend on the Sul Ross campus and elsewhere, including Spicewood Restaurant.
On Wednesday night before the main event, the Sul Ross State University Rodeo Team will present a show rodeo at SALE Arena.

The Borderlands Research Institute is reminding citizens to prevent black bear conflicts as more sightings happen throughout the Trans-Pecos area.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said with a growing number of black bear encounters in urban settings, it’s vital that the public practice bear safety.
Make sure to secure and make garbage, trash, bird feeders, livestock feed and food bowls inaccessible.
It is especially important to take pet food like dog and cat food inside at night as it’s one of the biggest bear attractions and birdfeeders also can lure unwanted bears.
And make sure to clean and secure barbecue grills and outdoor kitchens after you use them and securely pen small livestock like sheep, goats and chickens at night.
The Big Bend Sentinel in its edition this week said County Judge Cinderela Guevara may be part of what it said could be a wave turning solid blue Presidio County red this year.
It reports that when Guevara first decided to run for reelection as a Republican this year, she did not believe she had a chance of winning.
She was a lifelong Democrat and had been reelected as a Democrat in 2018 and the paper said politicians knew that they must have a “D” by their name if they wanted to win.
But Guevara said she found herself beset by a crisis of conscience, no longer feeling that the Democrat Party reflected her values.
The paper reports, as November 8 nears, many signs now have disclaimers that say in small print that they are paid for by a political-action committee called Project Red Texas.
Guevara became one of more than 100 local Republican candidates bolstered by the PAC, with its stated mission of getting Republicans elected to local office in “targeted counties.”
A number of former Democrats across the state, many of them Hispanics, have filed and some have won running as Republicans.
