The Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Board is gearing up for its next in-person gathering February 17 and 18 on the Sul Ross campus, Spicewood Restaurant and other venues.
To help raise money to pay for a top-name list of performers, it has offered a gun rally.
The winners will be picked Friday morning on both KVLF and KALP in the nine o-clock hour, right after School Superintendent Michele Rinehart.
City Municipal Judge Gilbert Valenzuela and author Ben English, both members of the Board, will draw the winning ticket.
It is for a Cimarron 26-inch 30-30 rifle, courtesy of Dodson Guns.
The Gathering will be preceded by a special show rodeo on Wednesday night before the main event by the Sul Ross State University Rodeo Team.

A Midland man was sentenced in Alpine Federal Court this week to nearly 17 years in prison for possessing fentanyl and illegally possessing a firearm.
Court documents show 36-year-old Edgar Parra sold more than 112 grams of fentanyl to undercover D.E.A. operatives three separate times between August and October last year.
The Midland Police Department executed a search warrant on Parra’s hotel room in November and found a loaded handgun along with 3.7 grams of methamphetamine.
Parra pleaded guilty in March to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl and one count of possessing a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.
He has remained in federal custody since he was arrested on federal indictment charges in January.
Sul Ross State University is inviting the public to attend a “What Drives Voting Behavior” seminar Friday at the Espino Conference Center at 10 a.m.
Jess Riegel, Co-Founder and C.E.O. of Motivote will teach about the science behind voting.
Refreshments will be provided and Volunteer Voter Registrars will be on hand to get Brewster County voters registered.

The Marfa 100 races are looking for volunteers for their 100- and 50-kilometer races October 13 through the 15th.
The race has tripled in size over the past three years and Marfa 100 needs more volunteers to keep up with the growing event.
Volunteers will receive a t-shirt and a free lunch.
All proceeds for this year’s event will go to the Marfa Volunteer Fire Department which is currently raising money to build an addition to the downtown fire station.

The City of Alpine Environmental Services Department is reminding citizens to schedule their monthly bulk pickup all next week and call before noon Friday at 837-0845.
Once a pickup has been scheduled, place no more than five items, separated in piles, directly in front of your house by 10 p.m. Sunday.
If this doesn’t work for you, the Hal Flanders Recycling Center now accepts bulky trash items anytime during normal business hours to dispose of for free.
