Good evening, today is Monday, September 26th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
A joint operation between Brewster County deputies and U.S. Border Patrol agents Saturday evening resulted in the arrest of one smuggling suspect and five illegal immigrants.
Emanuel Hosea Hafford was discovered to be smuggling the suspects from Mexico on Highway 385 South of Marathon.
The suspects were processed by the Border Patrol and Hafford was booked into the Brewster County Jail on five counts of smuggling of persons.
This year’s Gear Up for Game Wardens online auction will run Tuesday through Thursday to provide specialty gear for Texas Game Wardens.
Since 2017, donors have helped provide equipment ranging from thermal search-and-rescue drones to side-scan sonars and more.
Proceeds from the online auction will provide program support and ensure that Texas Game Wardens receive much-needed equipment.
All bidding will be online at the Gear Up Online Auction website where participants can bid on items like hunting and fishing experiences, mugs, coolers, firearms and more.
There is no charge for an item unless you win a bid, which you will be notified through text if you do. You also will be notified through text if you do not win a bid.

Brewster County Republican Chair Monica McBride posted a list of upcoming meetings on Facebook Monday.
First up is a Republican Candidate Meet and Greet from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at D.B.’s Barbeque in Terlingua Ghost Town. Refreshments will be provided.
The West of the Pecos Women’s Club meeting will at 7 p.m. Monday at a venue to be announced.
It will include the regular meeting and showing of the movie “2,000 Mules” and candidates are invited. A follow-up email will provide the location.
The Octane Fest will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at the Stable Performance Cars.
There, the Women’s Club will serve attendees at the Law Enforcement Personnel and First Responders with proceeds contributed to Alpine Christian School. Volunteers are needed
Also on Friday is a Republican Candidate Meet and Greet at Terry’s Barn in Terlingua Ranch from 6 to 8 p.m. Refreshments will be provided here as well.
Later, Tom Homan, former director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, will be the feature speaker at a Republican Women’s Fundraiser October 18.
Homan has appeared regularly on national news broadcasts speaking about the current influx of migrants at the U.S.-Mexico Border.
The West of the Pecos Republican Women’s Club fundraiser will be at the Granada Theater just three weeks before the November Mid-Term Election.
Dinner, beverages and a live auction will be included.

Seven graduate students at the Borderlands Research Institute at Sul Ross State University have been selected to receive $46,500 dollars in scholarships from seven different sources.
That includes the first-ever scholarship awarded from the Wes and Victoria Bannister Scholarship and the Wayne and JoAnn Moore Endowed Scholarship.
They include Caleb Hughes and Olivia Gray both winning the first Bannister Scholarship and Maya Ressler the Moore Endowed Scholarship.
And Gray and Ressler were two of four winning the Dan L. Duncan Scholarship by the Houston Safari Club.
Other Duncan winners were Preston McKee and Erin O’Connell and Gray also took home the Wildlife Graduate Student Scholarship of the Southwest.
And O’Connell won the West Texas Safari Club Scholarship.
Other winners include Leanna “Lilly” Morin and Brooke Bowman.
