This weekend, head to the Fort Davis National Historic Site to learn all about plants and pollinators.
The activities start tomorrow (SATURDAY) morning and will continue throughout the day. At 1 p.m., there will be a presentation on grassland pollinator research taking place at the historic site. And at 3 p.m., you can learn how to improve bee and butterfly habitats in your own backyard.
All activities require paid admission to the historic site.

The first lecture in Sul Ross State University’s science seminar series takes place next week.
On Thursday, September 18, Erika Blecha, an archeologist with the Center for Big Bend Studies, will talk about animal remains and what they can teach us about past environments and people.
The seminar series is being held in the Warnock Science Building, Room 201, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. It’s open to all students, faculty and the Big Bend community.

The Brewster County Groundwater Conservation District is set to meet next week.
On the agenda for the meeting is an update on a study of the Santa Elena aquifer, which runs under much of the area in Big Bend National Park. The district is also set to receive a report on monitoring zones in the area from the board member Kevin Urbanczyk.
The meeting is Thursday, September 18 at 9 a.m. at the Val Clark Beard county office building, located at 203 N. 7th Street.

Next weekend, the Judd Foundation in Marfa will celebrate the reopening of Donald Judd’s architecture office.
The $3.3 million effort to restore and reconstruct the office was derailed in 2021 when a fire engulfed the building, destroying much of the interior and roof.
The building is the first major project to be finished in a plan to restore many of the art organization’s facilities and buildings in Marfa. It’s also one of eleven Judd-related buildings in the town on the National Register of Historic Places.
The reopening takes place Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21. All events are free and open to the public.

The Marfa100, an annual charitable cycling race, is now open for registration. Cyclists can choose between the 100K and 50K races. Both head down a scenic stretch of ranch road 2810.
The race is Saturday, October 18. And registration is limited.

The Terlingua Music Bash is looking for artists and donations for the event’s silent auction.
The music festival will be held next month (OCTOBER) in the Terlingua Ghost Town.
The auction benefits the Mark Kneeskern Memorial Art Scholarship, which is awarded to a graduating senior of Big Bend High School that’s pursuing a fine art degree. This year’s recipient is Caitlin Staib, who will be attending Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

El Distrito de Conservación de Aguas Subterráneas del Condado de Brewster se reunirá la próxima semana.

El próximo fin de semana, la Fundación Judd en Marfa celebrará la reapertura del estudio de arquitectura de Donald Judd.
El proyecto de 3,3 millones de dólares para restaurar y reconstruir el estudio se vio frustrado en el 2021 cuando un incendio devastó el edificio, destruyendo gran parte del interior y el tejado.
El edificio es el primer gran proyecto finalizado dentro de un plan para restaurar muchas de las instalaciones y edificios de la organización artística en Marfa. Además, es uno de los once edificios relacionados con Judd en la ciudad que figuran en el Registro Nacional de Lugares Históricos.
La reapertura tendrá lugar el sábado 20 y el domingo 21 de septiembre. Todos los eventos son gratuitos y abiertos al público.
