The Sunshine House in Alpine will have its popular Wild West Night from 6 to 9 Saturday.
It will feature food, raffles and games and music by Last Call and Craig Carter and his Spur of the Moment Band. Raffle winners will get one of three prizes, a Grand Tour of the Big Bend, a flat-screen television or a 250-dollar gift certificate.
Overnight stays on the Grand Tour will include Paisano Hotel in Marfa, the Parker Hotel and Spicewood Restaurant in Alpine and two nights at the Gage Hotel in Marathon.
It continues with two nights at the Big Bend Holiday Hotel and dinner at the Starlight Theater in Terlingua and the Lajitas Golf Club and Candelilla Restaurant in Lajitas.

For the superstitious, this Friday is the 13 th and the Granada Theatre at 207 East Holland Avenue will celebrate the date.
The promotional material asks what better way is there to celebrate this Friday the 13 th than by watching the horror classic, “Friday the 13 th?” The venue will offer two 2 showings, at 6 and again at 8:30. And it will offer themed food and drink specials from Alcove Social and Faila Farm & Table.
Visitors should bring blankets and beanbags, cushions and camp chairs to sit on. Entry is a suggested donation of ten dollars.
And the Sul Ross Theatre Program’s next offering “Oleanna” opens at 7:30 Friday at the Sul Ross Studio Theatre in the Francoise Art Building.
The play by David Mamet is a gripping, two-character drama that examines issues of sexual harassment, power and censorship.
The theme develops through interactions between a male college professor and a female student. Oleanna contains violence, strong language and mature themes and may not be suitable for children under 14.
Performances run weekends through October 29 with Fridays and Saturdays shows at 7:30 and Sundays at 2.

Sul Ross State has received a 2.9 million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Education to help develop Hispanic-Serving Institutions.
The announcement came from the office of Senator John Cornyn. Sul Ross President Carlos Hernandez said the funding totals nearly three million dollars and will be distributed over five years. Hispanic Service program provides grants for the expansion of educational opportunities for and attainment of Hispanic students. A priority of the grant is the modernization of a lab, classroom and other learning spaces for at least six academic programs.
That includes a significant investment in equipment for Industrial Technology, a priority of the grant entitled “Digital Transformation and Modernization in Far West Texas.”
Hernandez said other goals include increasing enrollment, the number of degrees and certificates awarded and others. eric.funasaki@sulross.edu.

Children aged 6 to 11 are encouraged to sign up for Happy Hallow-read all this month as well as all-age challenges though April 8 next year. That is the date of the next total eclipse and anyone can take part in the Behold the Solar Eclipse Challenge.
