Early voting continues today (THURSDAY) and tomorrow (FRIDAY). And in Alpine, you can cast your ballot on the 17 constitutional amendments from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Judge Val Clark Beard conference room.
Election day is Nov. 4.

This weekend, an indigenous nonprofit will host a reburial ceremony in Presidio for seven people who once called the Presidio-Ojinaga area their home – it’s an area known as “La Junta”
Throughout the years, the remains of Indigenous people were taken by archaeologists and private collectors to be studied and held in institutions. In recent years, there has been an effort to repatriate those remains to their rightful resting place.
The historic event will be held Saturday, November 1, at 9:00 a.m. at the Cementerio del Barrio de los Lipanes in Presidio. A community reception will follow at the American Legion.

The Friends of the Ruidosa Church will host a community day this weekend (SATURDAY) at the historic church that’s nestled along the Rio Grande in Far West Texas.
The Friends of the Ruidosa Church is a nonprofit that’s working toward restoring the building.
The community day takes place in Ruidosa on Nov. 1, from 1 to 6 p.m. There will be matachines, food, refreshments and art.

Next week, the Alpine City Council will meet for a workshop and regular council meeting.
The workshop begins Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 4 p.m., and will focus on the city budget and amendments the council wants to make to it.
Afterwards, the council meets for a regularly scheduled meeting, where they’re set to approve those amendments, including one for water infrastructure improvements.
According to an agenda for the meeting, the council will also discuss the plans for the city to work with Alpine ISD on improvements to Manuel Payne field at Kokernot Park.
The council will also discuss the still vacant city manager position. That discussion will happen in executive session, which is not open to the public.

In November, the Borderlands Research Institute at Sul Ross will host a one-day workshop for landowners across the region to help them understand new opportunities for land use.
The event is called Diversifying Land Use in the Trans-Pecos: Informing Landowner Strategies for Conservation and Economic Sustainability. It will provide landowners with the latest information on renewable energy, carbon markets, conservation easements, ecotourism and other ways to complement traditional uses of land, like hunting and ranching.
The event will be held at the Morgan Center at Sul Ross State University in Alpine on Nov. 13 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Next month (NOVEMBER), the Big Bend Border Enforcement Security Task Force presents the inaugural Badges and Bogeys golf scramble.
The event is a fundraiser for the Blue and Brown Santa. The group is looking for three-person scramble teams to compete in the tournament. Registration is $225 per team and includes dinner and two drink tickets. The top team will win a cash prize, and there will be prizes for the person who hits the longest drive and the person who gets closest to the hole.
The event is Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. at the Alpine Country Club.

Este fin de semana, una organización indígena sin fines de lucro llevará a cabo una ceremonia de reinhumación en Presidio para siete personas que alguna vez consideraron el área de Presidio-Ojinaga como su hogar; es un área conocida como “La Junta”.
A lo largo de los años, los restos de indígenas fueron sustraídos por arqueólogos y coleccionistas privados para su estudio y conservación en instituciones. En los últimos años, se ha intentado repatriar esos restos a su lugar de descanso original.
El evento histórico se llevará a cabo el sábado 1 de noviembre a las 9:00 a.m. en el Cementerio del Barrio de los Lipanes en Presidio. Posteriormente, se ofrecerá una recepción comunitaria en la Legión Americana.

Los Amigos de la Iglesia de Ruidosa organizarán una jornada comunitaria este fin de semana (SÁBADO) en la histórica iglesia ubicada a orillas del Río Grande en el extremo oeste de Texas.
La asociación Amigos de la Iglesia de Ruidosa es una organización sin ánimo de lucro que trabaja para restaurar el edificio.
El día de la comunidad se llevará a cabo en Ruidosa el 1 de noviembre, de 1:00 a 6:00. Habrá matachines, comida, refrigerios y arte.

La próxima semana, el Ayuntamiento de Alpine se reunirá para un taller y una sesión ordinaria del consejo.
El taller comienza el martes 4 de noviembre a las 4 p.m. y se centrará en el presupuesto de la ciudad y las enmiendas que el consejo quiere introducir en él.
Posteriormente, el consejo se reúne en sesión ordinaria, donde aprobará dichas enmiendas, incluida una para mejoras en la infraestructura hídrica.
Según el orden del día de la reunión, el consejo también discutirá los planes para que la ciudad trabaje con el distrito escolar independiente de Alpine (Alpine ISD) en las mejoras del campo Manuel Payne en el parque Kokernot.
El consejo también debatirá sobre el puesto vacante de administrador municipal. Dicha discusión tendrá lugar en sesión privada, la cual no estará abierta al público.

En noviembre, el Instituto de Investigación de Borderlands en Sul Ross organizará un taller de un día para propietarios de tierras de toda la región con el fin de ayudarles a comprender las nuevas oportunidades de uso de la tierra.

El evento se llevará a cabo en el Centro Morgan de la Universidad Estatal Sul Ross en Alpine el 13 de noviembre de 9:00 a.m. a 4:00 p.m.
