Linda C. Fouquette who called Alpine one of her homes, has passed away in El Paso. She was 70 years old.
Linda was born in Lewiston, Maine and spent much of her childhood years in Bristol, Connecticut. While she lived there, Linda attended Bristol Eastern High School until she decided to quit her Junior year. She eventually received her GED a few years later.
She had a real knack for working in the auto parts retail business and worked in several stores in Bristol, along with her brother, Charles.
Linda married in 1988 and in 1993, she and her husband moved to Alpine. She divorced in 2001 and decided to stay in Alpine. During her time in the Big Bend, Linda worked as an auto clerk and she also spent time with Aramark at Sul Ross State University, the Holland Hotel and was a designer at Double K Flowers. She loved white roses and gardening as well.
Linda was also an accomplished chef and had recipes published in cookbooks. She always loved pets and had cats and dogs her entire life. Linda was a mystery buff and read many books by Agathe Christie, Sherlock Holmes and many other authors.
Linda was a remarkable woman and she will always be in our hearts. A private family memorial will be at a later date in Bristol, Connecticut.

Earlier today (MONDAY), classes at Alpine High School were temporarily placed on hold due to what the district has described as a “medical event for a student.”
Alpine ISD says during the “hold,” which lasted 10 minutes, students and staff were asked to remain in their classroom in order keep hallways clear while emergency personnel attended to the student.
According to the district, the student is with their family and is following up with medical professionals.

On Nov. 4, voters across the state will get their say on 17 constitutional amendments, which largely cover tax cuts.
Early voting for those efforts is now underway and will continue through Oct. 31. In Alpine, you can cast your ballot from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Judge VAl Clark Beard conference room, located at 203 N. 7th Street.
The propositions up for vote range from property tax cuts and water infrastructure funding to bail reform.

Tomorrow (TUESDAY), Brewster County officials will hold a special county commissioners meeting.
According to an agenda for the meeting, commissioners are set to hear a presentation from a company over the process of collecting delinquent property taxes in Brewster County.
That special commissioners meeting starts Tuesday morning at 9:30 and will be at the county courthouse in Alpine.

There will also be a city workshop and regular city council meeting tomorrow (TUESDAY), beginning at 4:00 p.m.
During the city council meeting, council members will discuss the possibility of dissolving the city’s parks and recreation board and they’ll also talk about the city pool, recent leaks, and a plan to improve the pool ahead of the next swimming season.

This week, the National Weather Service says we’ll see a roller coaster of temperature changes in the Big Bend. The coolest temperatures to hit the Big Bend will be tomorrow (TUESDAY) with much of the region seeing highs reach the 70s for the most part. The region will then see a warming trend on Wednesday and Thursday before another cold front moves into the region Thursday night.
Thursday will see a slight chance for rain, but other than that there aren’t any other chances for precipitation in the forecast.

On Wednesday, head to the USO building in Marfa for a one-day workshop on watershed solutions.
On Oct. 22, the Rio Grande Joint Venture, along with Borderlands Research Institute and the Dixon Water Foundation, will host a workshop covering practical, cost-effective techniques for improving stream and watershed health.
This workshop is designed for contractors, landowners, land managers, restoration practitioners, and those interested in learning how to plan, build, and maintain low-tech structures like one-rock dams, brush weirs, and more.
Coffee and lunch provided.
The workshop starts Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 9 a.m.

Linda C. Fouquette, quien consideraba a Alpine uno de sus hogares, falleció en El Paso. Tenía 70 años.
Linda nació en Lewiston, Maine, y pasó gran parte de su infancia en Bristol, Connecticut. Mientras vivió allí, Linda asistió a la escuela preparatoria Bristol Eastern hasta que decidió abandonar el penúltimo año. Finalmente, obtuvo su GED unos años después.
Tenía un verdadero don para trabajar en el negocio minorista de repuestos de automóviles y trabajó en varias tiendas en Bristol, junto con su hermano, Charles.
Linda se casó en 1988 y en 1993, ella y su esposo se mudaron a Alpine. Se divorció en 2001 y decidió quedarse en Alpine. Durante su estancia en Big Bend, Linda trabajó como empleada de automoción y también colaboró con Aramark en la Universidad Estatal Sul Ross, el Hotel Holland y fue diseñadora en Double K Flowers. También le encantaban las rosas blancas y la jardinería.
Linda también era una chef consumada y tenía recetas publicadas en libros de cocina. Siempre le encantaron las mascotas y tuvo perros y gatos toda su vida. Linda era una aficionada al misterio y leyó muchos libros de Agathe Christie, Sherlock Holmes y muchos otros autores.
Linda fue una mujer extraordinaria y siempre estará en nuestros corazones. Se realizará un homenaje familiar privado próximamente en Bristol, Connecticut.

Temprano hoy (LUNES), las clases en la preparatoria de Alpine se suspendieron temporalmente debido a lo que el distrito describió como un “evento médico para un estudiante”.
Alpine ISD dice que durante la “espera”, que duró 10 minutos, se pidió a los estudiantes y al personal que permanecieran en sus aulas para mantener los pasillos despejados mientras el personal de emergencia atendía al estudiante.
Según el distrito, el estudiante se encuentra con su familia y está haciendo seguimiento con profesionales médicos.

El 4 de noviembre, los votantes de todo el estado darán su opinión sobre 17 enmiendas constitucionales, que en gran medida cubren recortes de impuestos.

Esta semana, el Servicio Meteorológico Nacional prevé una gran variación de temperaturas en Big Bend. Las temperaturas más bajas se registrarán mañana (martes), con máximas que alcanzarán los 21 °C en gran parte de la región. Posteriormente, la región experimentará una tendencia al calentamiento el miércoles y jueves, antes de que otro frente frío llegue a la región el jueves por la noche.
El jueves habrá una ligera probabilidad de lluvia, pero aparte de eso no hay otras posibilidades de precipitación en el pronóstico.

El miércoles, diríjase al edificio USO en Marfa para un taller de un día sobre soluciones de cuencas hidrográficas.
El 22 de octubre, Rio Grande Joint Venture, junto con Borderlands Research Institute y la Dixon Water Foundation, organizarán un taller que cubrirá técnicas prácticas y rentables para mejorar la salud de arroyos y cuencas hidrográficas.
Este taller está diseñado para contratistas, propietarios de tierras, administradores de tierras, profesionales de la restauración y aquellos interesados en aprender a planificar, construir y mantener estructuras de baja tecnología como represas de una sola roca, presas de cepillo y más.
