After a week-long period from a severe water notice, customers of the Study Butte Water Supply Corporation may see some relief shortly.
At a meeting in the Red Pattillo Community Center Thursday night, residents were told the number two well, which was blamed for the outage, is back online.
A report of the meeting on the company’s website reported the system is recovering nicely and they are able to fill the tanks to normal levels.
Spokesperson Alisa De La Cruz told us Friday they are out of the danger zone for quantity and are awaiting test results on the quality.
The order last week advised Terlingua and Study Butte water users that the water supply was not only unsafe to drink but also could not be used for cooking or bathing. It even suggested it not be used for pets to drink.
De La Cruz told us that wording was by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
“Ten in Texas,” a movie created, produced and filmed in West Texas by West Texans will be shown to the public next month at the Granda Theater.
Susan Combs of Marathon wrote the script and Sam Pfiester of Fort Stockton produced it, his second full-length movie.
It stars Abigaile Pfiester and includes Anne Calaway, Modesta Williams, Liz Rogers and others.
It’s about ten West Texas women ranchers who mastermind a plan to help their neighbors in need in Boquillas, Mexico.
The showing will be at 3:30 Sunday, November 5. Doors will open at 2:45. All ticket sales will be donated to the Museum of the Big Bend Education Fund. Campsites and many facilities at the Big Bend Ranch State Park will be closed next week for the safety of park visitors during wildlife surveys.
From Wednesday to Saturday next week, biologists will count desert bighorn sheep by helicopter and perform the lethal removal of non-native aoudad.
Texas Parks and Wildlife will close access to Canyon Trail Wednesday and Thursday but Contrabando Trail System will be open during the survey’s duration.
Non-native aoudad compete heavily for resources with the bighorn sheep and other native species and have the potential to transmit diseases to the sheep.
Control of this invasive species is needed to protect the park’s native plants and animals as well as springs and other water resources that animals depend on.
Information about bighorn sheep can be found on the parks department’s website at tpwd.texas.gov.
And Big Bend National Park will change to the winter schedule for entry to Boquillas beginning Thursday, November 2.
The Boquillas Port of Entry within the park provides access to the town of Boquillas, Coahuila, as well as the Mexican Protected Areas of Maderas del Carmen and Ocampo.
The crossing will be open five days a week, Wednesday through Sunday.
During the transition from summer to winter schedule, the crossing will be open Friday through Monday next week and closed October 31 and November 1.
The Alpine High School El Toro newspaper and One Act Play will have its first seasonal fundraiser, bake sale and flea market Saturday outside of Porters Thriftway.
From 7:30 to 2, it will offer all sorts of tasty treats and one-of-a-kind oddities and gifts. The purpose of the sale is to raise funds for each club to purchase perspective T-shirts.

Después de un período de una semana desde un aviso severo sobre el agua, los clientes de Study Butte Water Supply Corporation pueden ver algo de alivio en breve.
En una reunión en el Centro Comunitario Red Pattillo el jueves por la noche, se les dijo a los residentes que el pozo número dos, al que se atribuyó la interrupción, está nuevamente en funcionamiento.
