Good evening, today is Thursday, October 20th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
Early voting for the November 8 General Election starts Monday and runs weekdays through Friday, November 4.
Early voting for those in Alpine and nearby will be at the Judge Val Clark Beard Office complex west of the Courthouse.
Hours will be 7 to 7 Mondays and 8 to 6 Tuesdays through Fridays.
Remote Early voting will be at the Marathon Community Center, Panther Junction Visitor Center and the J.W. “Red” Pattillo Community Center.
On Election Day November 8, Precinct One now will be at the Assembly of God Fellowship Hall across from Alpine High School.
Precinct Two will be at the Beard Office complex, Three at the Marathon Community Center, Four at the Alpine Civic Center or Council Chambers and Eight at the Food Pantry.
Precinct Five Will be at Panther Junction and Six and Seven at the Pattillo Center.
The 7th Annual Wild West Night by the Sunshine House will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Sunshine House for the first time with food, music and events for the whole family.
A chuckwagon dinner will feature carne guisada with all the fixings and the Sunshine House will host a bake-off for adults and a youth section for 7- to 17-year-olds.
Attendees also will be able to bid in the silent auction, visit the photo booth or pick up a quilt with drinks by the Ole Crystal Bar.
Friend of the Sunshine House Chachi Hawkins said this event allows the program to reduce its reliance on government funds to provide better food and service to seniors in the area.
Hawkins: “The best thing about this is that it’s our one money-making event. It’s how we make money to keep the sunshine house doing all the great things it does.”
Sunshine House director Kerie Van Zeyst said the funds will allow the staff to continue to provide programs, meals, events, services and more.
Van Zeyst: “Our mission is to provide quality nourishment and social enrichment in the lives of seniors the homebound and disabled in Alpine and Marathon Texas. We have ten staff members total and everyone is a thousand percent behind our mission.”
Craig Carter and the Spur of the Moment Band will take the stage to perform classic country and western swing music.
For the first time as well, John Davis and His Last Call Band will play during the dinner hour.
Participants will be able to buy a ticket throughout the week or at the event for a 55-inch Samsung T.V.

Twin brothers charged in the Hudspeth County shooting last month that left one migrant dead and another injured are being detained in Marfa and Alpine.
The Big Bend Sentinel reports Mark and Mike Sheppard have been charged with manslaughter and assault with a deadly-weapons charge.
They relate to a shooting south of Sierra Blanca September 27 in which a group of migrants who were drinking water from a reservoir were shot.
Sheriff Ronny Dotson’s office confirmed that Mike Sheppard is being held in the Brewster County Jail. His brother Mark is being held in the Presidio County Jail in Marfa.
The pair will appear in a bond hearing in virtual court Thursday.
Our Congressman Tony Gonzales has announced one-and-a-quarter million dollars in funding for the School Violence Prevention Program to four school districts across his district.
He said the grants will help institute safety measures in and around schools and support school violence prevention efforts.
They will provide training to school personnel and students, implement threat assessments and fund research and evaluation on the causes and consequences of school violence.
