A Brewster County Deputy and police dog Latek tracked and arrested an individual who was trespassing on private property west of Marathon Thursday morning.
The suspect is an undocumented immigrant from Honduras and was traveling with three or four other individuals. Deputies and U.S. Border Patrol agents remained in the area attempting to locate the other suspects. Sheriff Ronny Dodson reminded everyone who may see suspicious activity to contact them 837- 3488 or 911 for emergencies.
The next presentation of the Sul Ross State University Department of Visual and Performing Arts opens at 7:30 Friday.
“Oleanna,” a play written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet, features just two actors exploring sexual harassment and censorship. When undergraduate student Carol meets with university professor John to discuss her failing grade, their brief encounter leads to accusations that threaten John’s career. “Oleanna” premiered on Broadway in 1992 starring William H. Macy and Rebecca Pidgeon. In its review of the play, The New York Times noted the issues came up a year later when Anita Hill testified against Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas in his confirmation hearing.
Director and Associate Professor of Communication and Theatre Marjie Scott said the play feels very timely. She said the issues of power dynamics, sexual harassment and censorship are still relevant, especially on college campuses.
“Oleanna” runs weekends starting Friday through October 29 in the François Fine Arts Building Studio Theatre. Performances on Fridays and Saturdays are at 7:30 and Sundays at 2.

The Sunshine House in Alpine will have its popular Wild West Night from 6 to 9 Saturday.

The Big Bend Eno Hella Turkey Shoot will be from 5 to 7 Saturday at the Big Bend Sportsman Club west of Alpine.
Winners of the several shooting events will win a coupon for a frozen turkey from Porters Thriftway. The Shooting Range is south of Highway 90 a short distance past the U.S. Border Patrol station.
