Services are still pending for David Quintela Saenz of Alpine, who died September 30 in Fort Stockton at age 59.
We had his obituary last week but some have called wanting to know when services will be. We will pass that information along when we get it.
The 2022 Mid-Term General elections are less than a month away, so called because it is in the middle of the four-year Presidential term. It will be Tuesday, November 8.
We have reported on candidate forums but other notices still come in.
Another is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. next Monday in the Alpine School District Auditorium at 704 West Sul Ross Ave.
The candidates for that forum include Greg Henington and Oscar Cobos for Brewster County Judge and Mark Chiles and Sara Colando for County Commissioner, Precinct Two.
A moderator has not yet been selected for this forum.

And Tuesday is the last day to register to vote in that election.
New Alpine Director of Building Services Andrew Devaney told City Talk on KVLF Thursday that his department hopes not to have to issue citations to enforce its weed ordinance.
The city ordinance requires grass and weeds to be cut before reaching 12 inches in height but Devaney said he will make every effort to work with homeowners to avoid going to court.
Devaney: “We don’t want to get to the citation by any means because we know this is an ebb and flow situation. Some people are busy during the week, they’ll mow it on the weekends.”
When possible, his code enforcement officers will speak to the homeowner or at least leave a message on a door hangar or something.
Devaney: “We’ll definitely try to work with people. The easiest thing is to do is call us if they do get a door knocker or they do get a letter. Let us know that they’re on it and we can update that on our database for each.”
Often, there is an absentee owner who can be informed by mail but it is the responsibility of the occupant of a rental rather than a distant landowners to keep weeds trimmed.
After being issued a notice, they have seven days to comply.
The Big Bend Conservation Alliance, the Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas and family descendants of those interred at the cemetery plan to remodel the “Cementerio del Barrio de los Lipanes.”
The cemetery is a sacred site to the Lipan Apache Tribe in Presidio that recently obtained a historical marker and had the land transferred back to the tribe.
The next step includes a partnership with Mass Design Group to redesign the site to protect and preserve the cemetery.
Mass Design Group is an award-winning non-profit architecture and design firm whose mission is to research, build and advocate for architecture that promotes justice and human dignity
The design for the cemetery aims to instill acknowledgment of and respect for Indigenous presence in the Chihuahuan Desert.
The current design will create place-specific design language that focuses on sacredness, gathering and landback.
The burial mound will also be supported with a series of concentric gabion walls to prevent erosion and protect the site from further desecration.
