The National Weather Service says we’ll see warm, sunny days throughout the Big Bend this week.
Forecasters with the agency say the warmest temperatures the Alpine area will see this week will reach the mid-80s.
Taylor Sprang is a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Midland.
SPRANG1: Right now, what it’s looking like is Wednesday and Thursday will be two of the warmest days. In fact…Alpine itself, both days, will be right around the 84, 85-degree range.” (0:13)
By the weekend though, Sprang says we can expect a “potent” cold front to come into the area, which will provide for some fall-like temperatures. Highs will reach the 70s on Saturday and the 60s on Sunday for much of the Big Bend region.

Tomorrow (WEDNESDAY), the Sul Ross Recreation and Residential Living group is hosting an evening hike at Davis Mountains State Park.
The hike starts at 5:30 tomorrow (WEDNESDAY), Nov. 5. Transportation will be provided, but space is limited.

This week, the Center for Big Bend Studies hosts their 31st annual conference in Alpine.
This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Meradeth Snow, an associate professor of anthropology at the University of Montana. In her research, Snow hopes to use DNA analysis to uncover connections between former residents of the Big Bend region and their counterparts at Paquimé in Mexico.
The event is Thursday, Nov. 7 and 8 at Sul Ross.

This is the last week to catch the Sul Ross theatre department’s performance of “True West.”
The dark comedy is set in California’s San Gabriel Valley, and explores the tense relationship between two brothers working toward the American Dream.
The final performances are this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and the last show is Sunday, Nov. 9 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for seniors 65 and older. U.S. veterans and university students, faculty and staff receive free admission.

Later this week, the local nonprofit Alpine Community Projects will host a community conversation on elder care in the region and how to provide for the Big Bend’s aging population.
The meeting is Thursday, Nov. 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the old schoolhouse.
Then later this week, on Saturday, the group will host a demonstration on brick building preservation. The talk will be led by experts in historic preservation, and will be held at 205 E. Sul Ross Ave., starting at 9 a.m.

Next week, the Small Business Development Center at Sul Ross will host a training to improve your business skills.
On Monday, Nov. 10, the center will host a beginner-friendly training on using AI tools in Canva to enhance your workflow and marketing efforts. The one-hour training will introduce you to the basics of Canva’s built-in AI features, including tools for writing text and creating graphics.
The training will be from 11 a.m. to noon.

The Alpine Public Library invites children 8 years and older for an arts and crafts day, where they’ll make their own trading cards.
Local artist Beth Dixon will lead the class. It takes place Nov. 18 at the library from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.

El Servicio Meteorológico Nacional pronostica días cálidos y soleados en toda la región de Big Bend esta semana.
Los meteorólogos de la agencia dicen que las temperaturas más cálidas que se registrarán esta semana en la zona alpina alcanzarán los 85 grados Fahrenheit (aproximadamente 29 grados Celsius).
