Good evening, today is Tuesday, November 29th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
Funeral services for Daniel Galindo Lujan of Ojinaga will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eternity Funeral Home in Fort Stockton. He died Sunday in Fort Stockton at age 85.
Rosary was Tuesday and burial will be at St. Josephs Cemetery.
Daniel was born in Chihuahua on December 9, 1936, and married Eulalia Madrid De La O on May 31, 1959, in Alamos de San Antonio.
He is survived by four children, 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
The Frontier Roadhouse near the American Legion Hall is hosting a Honky Tonk Holiday Christmas Friday and Saturday on South State Highway 118 near Terlingua Ranch.
The event kicks off at 4 p.m. Friday and visitors can have first pick at art, crafts, gifts and refreshments with musical performances and wagon rides.
Doors will open at 10 a.m. Saturday with the same market, music performances and Christmas themed backgrounds for family photos and visits with Santa.
The entry fee Friday is $10 each but children 12 and under enter free. It will be free Saturday. Both days will end at 10 p.m. and are B.Y.O.B.
Big Bend Ranch State Park will present its annual Posada at Fort Leaton next week.
More than a thousand candle luminarias will light the way for guests to walk and sing with a Posada procession that has been observed in the region for hundreds of years.
The word posada means inn or lodging and traditionally posadas are a celebration of the Christmas story.
They take place on nine nights from December 16 to 24 and commemorate the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph’s search for a place to stay where Jesus could be born.
After the procession at Fort Leaton from 6 to 8 p.m. December 10 will be traditional holiday drinks, snacks, mariachis and guided tours of the fort every 30 minutes starting at 6:30.
Our Congressman Tony Gonzales and 57 of his colleagues have sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin urging him to restore housing allowances to service members.
The letter says the full Basic Allowance for Housing program has underfunded reinvestment accounts for service members and their families by 95%.
That means less funds for long-term sustainment, more deferred maintenance and ultimately a less satisfactory housing experience for military families.
They wrote that restoring full accounts will allow for greater funding for these reinvestment accounts and will restore the financial integrity to the program.
Ticket sales are open to all for the next Lone Star Cowboy Gathering February 17 and 18 at Sul Ross Marshall Auditorium and other venues in Alpine.
The big highlight this year is a special show dedicated to Charlie Goodnight and His Life in Poetry and Song.
It will be a true western opera with 15 poems and 14 songs written and composed by Andy Wilkinson as the Saturday Night Show at 7:30 February 18.
Goodnight was a 19th Century rancher in the American West who was inducted into the Hall of Great Westerners of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in 1955.
The program includes more than 30 performers who will speak, play and sing including Craig Carter, Jack George, Andy Hedges, Joel Nelson, Gail Steiger and many more.
A first this year will be a Show Rodeo by the Sul Ross Rodeo Team, led by nationally-recognized coach C.J. Aragon on Wednesday before the main event.
And of course, the popular Chuckwagon Breakfasts in Poets Grove near the Kokernot Lodge both Friday and Saturday mornings.
