November 21st

Transcript:

Good evening, today is Monday, November 22nd, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.

The holiday season is now in full swing with Thanksgiving this week and two tree-lighting ceremonies, both at Sul Ross State University next week.

The first will be next Tuesday as part of a winter carnival on Tuesday, November 29. The public is invited to attend.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m., all are welcome to take photographs in front of the 25-foot Christmas tree at Lawrence Hall, which is near Entrance 2 on East Holland Avenue.

Then the Second Annual Historic Alpine Christmas Stroll will be Saturday, a partnership between the Alpine Historical Association and Sul Ross.

A.H.A. Founder and President Abbey Branch said her goal is to encourage holiday spirit, camaraderie and togetherness in the community.

She said in years past, families saw Santa Claus at the Methodist Church and then watched a production of Dicken’s “A Christmas Carol.”

Then they went to see the luminarias at the Catholic church.

Saturday’s event starts at 4:30 with kids’ crafts at the Old School House, known to many as the old Sunshine House, at 207 E. Sul Ross Avenue.

After musical performances by Neil Trammell and the Sul Ross Choir and Concert Band at the Methodist Church, strollers will move east on Sul Ross Avenue.

Along the way will be live performances every 15 minutes, including from the Fort Stockton High School Combined Choirs and the Alpine High School Band.

The second Christmas tree lighting also will be at Lawrence Hall where all the musicians will perform together before another visit from Santa.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, events in Fort Davis and Alpine will commemorate the holiday.

On Thanksgiving Eve Wednesday, the Parker Family will welcome the public to a Community Thanksgiving Dinner at Spicewood Restaurant from 4 to 6 p.m.

No reservations are required and admission is free while supplies last. Spicewood will be closed on Thanksgiving Day.

Fort Davis will host the Hometown Fair with harvests, crafts, food and fun Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Both will be at the Jeff Davis County Community Center from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

For questions or to reserve a booth, contact Toi Fisher at 249-0814.

And the Alpine Ministerial Alliance will celebrate a special Thanksgiving Service where they will worship together and share a Thanksgiving message about the true blessings of God.

It is scheduled for 6 Thursday evening at First Christian Church at 201 West Sul Ross Avenue.

The service also will be available online through Zoom. For log-in, email alpineministerialalliance@gmail.com.

The Marathon Public Library is partnering with local organizations to appreciate donors during Giving Tuesday next week.

Those who donate will be entered into a raffle for prizes from the Brick Vault, French Company Grocer, Front Street Books, Eve’s Garden and the Gage hotel.

I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez and this has been your local and area news report for KVLF 98.7 FM, 1240 AM and KALP 92.7 FM brought to you by your Big Bend Regional Medical Center. Have a great evening everybody.
