Good evening, today is Wednesday, November 16th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
Ticket sales are now open to all for the next Lone Star Cowboy Gathering February 17 and 18 at Sul Ross Marshall Auditorium and other venues in Alpine.
The big highlight this year is a special show dedicated to Charlie Goodnight and His Life in Poetry and Song.
It will be a true western opera with 15 poems and 14 songs written and composed by Andy Wilkinson as the Saturday Night Show at 7:30 February 18.
Goodnight was a 19th Century rancher in the American West who was inducted into the Hall of Great Westerners of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in 1955.
The program includes more than 30 performers who will speak, play and sing including Craig Carter, Jack George, Andy Hedges, Joel Nelson, Gail Steiger and many more.
A first this year will be a Show Rodeo by the Sul Ross Rodeo Team, led by nationally-recognized coach C.J. Aragon on Wednesday before the main event.
And of course, the popular Chuckwagon Breakfasts in Poets Grove near the Kokernot Lodge are on for both Friday and Saturday mornings.

The Poetry Gathering is one of the big red-letter events in Alpine. Another is ArtWalk, scheduled for Friday and Saturday this week.
It all started with Gallery Night in 1994, when gallery owners Keri Blackman and John Davis created a small collection of open houses designed to celebrate and spotlight local artists
It has grown through the years and later became known as ArtWalk, which now attracts 65 hundred to ten thousand people from throughout Texas and elsewhere.
Guests can stroll through downtown Alpine and enjoy visiting local businesses, including the Kishmish Hecho a Mano Art Market and 5th Street Artist booths.
Featured Artist this year is E. Dan Klepper of Marathon, who creates large-scale mixed-media presentations that capture what he calls the “wild untamed landscape of rural Texas.”

The latest area law enforcement agency to announces its Blue or Brown Santa program is the Marfa Police Department, its fifth year to participate.
The department will begin accepting wrapped and unwrapped toys from November 21 until December 15.
Toys may be dropped off at the Marfa Police department at 113 South Highland.
Families that have moved to Marfa can get notices of these and other events by messaging though its Facebook messenger or by calling 729-1841.
The Mule Deer Foundation is hosting a Fall Event Gun Board Raffle to support mule deer conservation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Spicewood Restaurant.
The Gun Board Raffle features a large assortment of firearms, Yeti coolers, a pellet grill, spotting scope, binoculars, gift cards and more.
Entries are $10 a ticket. With every 100 tickets sold a winner will be drawn who will pick any item from the gun board.
Participants do not need to be present to win a raffle item and all state and federal laws apply on firearms.
Other raffles and games for M.D.F. gear and other merchandise will be at Spicewood, which has no admission fees.
