Services for Jose Chavarria of Alpine will be this week at Alpine Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. He died November 7 on his 77 th birthday.
A visitation will be at 5 Thursday with Rosary to follow at 7. A funeral service will be at 10 Friday at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.
Jose was born November 7, 1946, in Marathon and was a combat U. S. Marine and mechanic.

This is the week before Thanksgiving but, for Alpine, it’s time for the 30th rendition of Gallery Night, now known as ArtWalk.
Backers say this year’s ArtWalk on Friday and Saturday promises a weekend filled with art, music and unforgettable experiences.
Featured Artist this year is Tom Curry, an acclaimed artist known for his quirky illustrations and bold color palate that evoke images of far west Texas and further south.
The music lineup for this year’s Artwalk includes Del Castillo and Slade Coulter. Two stages will showcase music throughout both days with a diverse blend of music for all to enjoy.
Local and regional food vendors will be on site to provide everything from oven baked pizzas to tacos.
And local and regional artists will sell and display their artwork throughout the downtown area.
Other attractions include Austin Bike Zoo, an artisan market, an Art Silent Auction benefiting the library and the popular Art Car Parade at noon Saturday.

Monday is the final day to give to Operation Christmas Child, giving a shoe-box full of fun items for needy children.
Karen McGuire, who oversees the program for Alpine, was on Martin’s Second Cup of Coffee this week and discussed the program.
A project of Samaritan’s Purse overseen by Franklin Graham, it has provided more than 209 million children in more than 170 countries a present they could not get any other way.
Martin asked how they go about the shoe-box routine.
Karen mentioned that it’s a shoe box. It’s just a shoe box. It can be plastic. You can buy it at one of the stores or it can be from one of your own shoes and you fill it with goodies. You can have it like a blanket or a doll or a ball and all kinds of toys. She said.
She said it also could include toothbrushes but not toothpaste and no candies of any kind and no toy guns or knives, but crayons or just about anything else because these kids have nothing.
And it should include ten dollars for shipping expenses.
Drop the shoe boxes off at the Hillside Baptist Church from 4 to 6 Thursday and Friday, 11:30 to 1:30 Saturday, 4 to 6 Sunday and 8 to 10 Monday.

Two-time best-selling author Stephanie Scheller presents “The Secret Weapon to Peak Performance.”
Scheller, also a speaker, award winning entrepreneur and violinist, will share (shared) the tools that helped her peak perform as a woman entrepreneur.
Her business has consistently grown year after year, even through a pandemic.
