Today is Veteran’s Day to honor the end of World War One, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of
the 11th year, or November 1911, and honor all Americans who have served in our armed
services,

Among others around the world, Alpine school district will host (hosted) the annual community
program at 11 in the Alpine High School gym.
This year, our guest speaker will be (was) Lieutenant Samantha Young of the United States
Navy, a 2013 graduate of Alpine High School and a 201)7 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy.
(Parking for Veterans and community members will be available in the lot on the south end of
the high school off Fighting Buck Avenue.)
And the Alpine Christian School will host its Veteran’s Day program at 2 and the community is
invited.
Those with a Veteran in their family should consider bringing them to this event if they are still
with us.
Refreshments will be served after the ceremony.

Brewster County Commissioners tomorrow will discuss budget items relating to tourism, one for
the indigent defense fund and two relating to a proposed dormitory for the South County
Emergency Services.

The tourism items include the creation of a half-million-dollar contingency reserve within the
tourism fund.
Another is two new capital expenditure funds of 250-thousand dollars each for tracking the
development of Visitor Centers in Marathon and Terlingua.
Then there is payment of an invoice for 12-hundred-and-fifty dollars from Level Five
Architecture for pre-design services related to Marathon Visitor Center.
An invoice from Level Five is for 11-thousand-500-dollars for pre-design and schematic design
services for the Terlingua Visitor Center.
Another budget item is a 50-thousand-dollar increase to the indigent fund to cover defense costs
outside the Far West Texas Public Defenders’ budget.

In other budget items, there is action to establish a 50-thouand-dollar capital expenditure fund for
the South County Emergency Service dormitory.
And another invoice from Level Five Architecture is for 10-thoiuand-500 dollars for pre-design
and schematic design services for the Terlingua dormitory.
All are on the agenda under the item for Comptroller Malynda Richardson.
Commissioners meet at 9:30 tomorrow in the Commissioners Courtroom in the County
Courthouse.


The Sul Ross Guided Hike on Hancock Hill is coming up from 9 to 1 on Saturday, November 23.
Experience the 1.8-mile loop trail on the hill behind Sul Ross State University.

Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 49 minutes to
complete. This is a popular trail for birding and hiking, but you can still enjoy some solitude
during quieter times of day.
The trail is open year-round, and many consider it beautiful to visit. Dogs are welcome, but must
be on a leash.

The Big Bend Community Chorale has rehearsals at 6 every Monday in Room 200 in the Sul
Ross Fine Arts Building.
