Today (MONDAY), Maverick Bank invites the public to a grab-and-go burger cookout benefiting Alpine’s Sunshine House.
The benefit will be this evening from (MONDAY) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The meal–which comes with a hamburger, chips, a drink, and dessert–has a suggested minimum donation of $7.
Head to the Sunshine House and grab dinner for the whole family, and know that your donation goes directly toward supporting and providing for our local seniors.

Tomorrow (TUESDAY), Brewster County officials will hold the next commissioners court at the courthouse in Alpine.
According to an agenda for the meeting, commissioners will consider funding for the construction of a new library in Study Butte. Officials are also set to discuss setting a date for a public hearing on the formation of an emergency services district in north Brewster County.
The creation of the district was recommended to the country as a way to fund emergency services in the northern part of the county.
Commissioners meet Tuesday, May 12 at 9:30 a.m. at the Brewster County Courthouse.

On Wednesday, Leadership Big Bend will host a volunteer event at Sul Ross.
The volunteer event will give the tri-county area an opportunity to connect with and get involved in different nonprofit groups across the region. You’ll learn about all the ways you can volunteer and support your community.
The volunteer event will be May 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the University Center on the campus of Sul Ross.

Big Bend Regional Medical Center is looking for artists who would want to display their art at the hospital.
The hospital’s looking for works ranging from pictures to sculptures. The artwork can be displayed for a limited time, or donated to the hospital.

Big Bend National Park has three internship openings that start next month. The work ranges from administrative and maintenance related to interpretation and education.
The administrative support assistant intern will provide clerical support for staff at Big Bend National Park headquarters. The intern working in interpretation and education will have an opportunity to train in supporting, creating, and presenting interpretation programs. And the intern working in the maintenance and facilities department will assist in performing routine and straightforward maintenance and repair of the park grounds, structures, buildings, equipment and related utilities.
All three internship roles come with a living stipend and some money to help cover relocation costs.

Later this month (MAY), the Alpine Cowboys baseball season kicks off with the Home Run 5K and 10K at Kokernot Field.
The race takes place Saturday, May 23. And whether you enter the 5K or 10K, you’ll reach the finish line at home plate with the Cowboys team cheering you on. The 10K race starts that morning at 9:00 with the 5K run starting at 9:15.
Water, fruit, and your finisher medal will be waiting for you at the finish line!

Also on May 23, join Front Street Books at the Ritchey for their first ever book fair for adults.
The event will feature live music, book selections from Front Street Books staff, and special drinks from the Ritchey.
Tickets for the event are $35 in advance and $45 at the door.
Admission includes a Front Street Books swag bag, one staff pick from a featured books table, a drink, and one raffle entry.
