Transcript:

Tomorrow (TUESDAY), the Alpine City Council will hold a special meeting, where, in executive session, they’ll meet to QUOTE “hear a complaint and make inquiry into conduct of a council member in regards to conduct with city personnel.”

The special meeting is Tuesday, June 23 at 5:30 p.m. at the council chambers.

A copy of the agenda can be found at cityofalpine.com.

The local nonprofit Alpine Community Projects is looking to raise money for new furniture at the municipal pool.

The organization says the city needs 16 chairs, five tables and an umbrella stand for one of the lifeguards. And the money raised by the community will be matched by the Permian Basin Area Foundation.

All this week, the Small Business Development Center at Sul Ross State University will host a series of training sessions for business owners to improve their work and discover new ways to approach business.

The first online course will be Wednesday, June 24 and will teach you how to craft a winning capability statement when applying for a government contract. During this one-hour webinar, you’ll learn five key areas to craft a comprehensive statement. This webinar is June 24 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

Then on Thursday, learn how to construct your very own website. That training will go from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on June 25. And on Friday, the last course for the week will tell you about the key missteps to avoid when growing your business. This one-hour training is Friday June 26 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Next week, county officials will hold a rescheduled public hearing on creating an emergency services district.

The meeting comes after several months of work to figure out how to provide emergency services in the northern half of Brewster County. The hearing will determine whether to move forward with an election in the fall to create an emergency services district, which – if approved – would collect taxes to fund emergency services.

The hearing is open to the public and anyone who attends can weigh in on whether they believe the emergency services district should be created.

The meeting will be Tuesday, June 30 at 9:30 a.m. at the Brewster County Commissioner’s courtroom.

Next month (JULY), Sul Ross State University will bring together educators, school leaders and community members for the Science of STEM Literacy Conference.

The event will go over teaching strategies, learning practices and how STEM literacy is changing in the age of artificial intelligence.

The conference will be Monday, July 13 at the Espino Conference Center at Sul Ross. The event’s free and open to educators and the public although registration is required.
