Apolinaria “Pola” Rodriguez, a lifelong resident of Alpine, was called home to glory on July 13. She was 95.
Pola was a faithful servant of the Lord and a humble woman. She will be remembered for her faith and devotion to Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. She served as a member of La Acción Católica, Las Guadalupanas Organization, Eucharistic minister and was a lector for over 37 years.
Those left to honor and cherish the memory of Pola are her four children, seventeen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great grandchildren.
Services for Pola will take place at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine tomorrow (TUESDAY) on Tuesday, July 21, beginning with the recitation of the most holy rosary at 9:30 a.m. A funeral mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. and the burial will take place after mass at Holy Angels Cemetery in Alpine.

Tomorrow (TUESDAY), the city of Alpine will host a budget workshop followed by a regular city council meeting.
The budget workshop will include a review of revenues, expenses and council priorities and starts at 4:00 p.m. As part of the regular council meeting, Mayor Catherine Eaves will bring up a discussion regarding the local effort to restore the old railway station on Del Rio Street and what role, if any, the city can play.
Council members will also go over the city’s capital improvement plan and consider updates, including QUOTE “project priorities, funding considerations, and next steps in the planning process.”
The city council meeting takes place at 803 W. Holland Avenue, and starts after the budget workshop on Tuesday.

Tomorrow (TUESDAY), the free summer concert series “Music Under the Stars” continues at Kokernot Lodge in Alpine.
Make sure to bring your own chair, a blanket, and pack your refreshments Tuesday night when the Big Bend Community Band takes the stage.
The band performs from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m.
The free concert series continues every Tuesday this month, and is free and open to the public.

Tomorrow (TUESDAY), head to the Alpine Public Library for Family Math Night.
The event is free, open to the public and intended for children in pre-k through 4th grade.
Family Math Night takes place Tuesday, July 21 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

All this week, the Small Business Development Center at Sul Ross State University will host training sessions for business owners.
The first training is tomorrow (TUESDAY) and will cover how to read and interpret financial reports like profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. That training starts Tuesday morning at 10:00.
Then on Wednesday, the SBDC will host a session on the fundamentals of intellectual property. That session starts at 10:00 a.m.
And on Thursday, the center will host a training on preparing for the tax season, and will cover the best practices for maintaining and organizing your financial records, tracking deductible expenses, and how to prepare for the tax season throughout the year.

Next month (AUGUST), the Big Bend Ranch Rodeo takes place in Alpine at the S.A.L.E. Arena.
The annual event kicks off Friday, August 7 with a WRCA rodeo performance beginning at 7:00 p.m. That weekend there will also be a youth rodeo performance, a youth dummy roping contest and live music.
