Today (MONDAY) is the final town hall on ground ambulance services in the region. 

A city-county taskforce has been meeting to figure out how to move forward with those services, since the contract with the current EMS provider isn’t being renewed once it ends in May.

The taskforce includes Alpine, Brewster County officials and community members.

The final town hall is tonight (MONDAY) at the Sul Ross University Center at 6:00 p.m.

The county has also created a Q&A page with more information, which you can find at brewstercounty.gov.

Tomorrow (TUESDAY), Brewster County officials meet for the next county commissioner’s meeting.

And according to an agenda for the meeting, Kayse Muratori (myrrh-uh-tore-ee) will provide an update on her efforts to improve addressing across the tri-county area. Muratori (myrrh-uh-tore-ee) is the 9-1-1 GIS Coordinator for the Big Bend area.

County officials are also set to receive department updates from the treasurer’s office, the emergency management department, and from Brewster County tourism.

Commissioners court is Tuesday, February 10 at 9:30 a.m. at the county courthouse.

There’s still time to register for this week’s Water in the Desert conference.

The three-day event focuses on the future of water in the Chiahuan Desert of West Texas. 

You can join landowners, scientists, policymakers, and community leaders from Wednesday, February 11 through the Friday, February 13 at Sul Ross State University and engage in conversations, sessions and field trips that will touch on water scarcity, access and the region’s many aquifers.

At the end of the week, the Granada Theater in Alpine will host “A Little Ray of Sunshine,” a night of music to fundraise for the Sunshine House. 

Billy Mata and the Texas Tradition will perform a tribute to Ray Price, the Ole’ Cherokee Cowboy – and 100% of the proceeds will benefit Sunshine House’s meals on wheels program.

The fundraiser will be Thursday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Granada Theater.

Tickets are $35, and a cash bar opens at 6 p.m.

At the end of the month, the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute will hold their second annual Seed Swap.

To participate, bring any seeds you collected over the past year to share with others, and remember, the seeds must be native to the Trans-Pecos region, must have been harvested last  fall and shouldn’t be hybrids.

The swap will be Saturday, Feb. 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at CDRI.
