Monday, June 17th news.
Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported last week that state sales tax revenue was at a rate of growth less than inflation, indicating a slowdown in spending by consumers and businesses.
He said July’s take of four billion dollars is up only by a tenth of a percent over July last year.
The majority of July sales tax revenue is based on sales made in June and remitted to the agency in July.
Sales taxes from the sectors driven primarily by business spending were mixed, with receipts greater than July last year. But receipts from the mining and wholesale trade sectors came in significantly lower than a year ago.
