Tomorrow (TUESDAY), the Alpine City Council will host a budget workshop and regular council meeting.
According to an agenda for next week’s meeting, the budget workshop will cover a review of revenues and expenses. That’s set to begin at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Afterwards, the local officials will hold their regular city council meeting, which is set to include a discussion on potentially installing a stop sign at South Ragin Street and East Avenue I. Council will also receive a department update from Fire Chief James Etchison. The council meeting starts Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, the Borderlands Research Institute at Sul Ross will host a three-day conference on sustaining lands to support wildlife across Texas.
BRI, along with the Texas Wildlife Association and Texas Parks and Wildlife, will bring together landowners, industry experts, and like-minded conservationists to cover emerging issues in the Trans-Pecos, big game and non-game research and management, applied management, and land stewardship.
The Trans-Pecos Wildlife Conference takes place Wednesday, August 5 through August 7 at the Morgan Center at Sul Ross.

Later this week, head to the Marathon Songwriters Festival, a three-day celebration of song and story in Far West Texas.
The annual event brings intimate solo performances by well-known musicians and master songwriters. This year’s lineup includes Wade Bowen, Adam Wright, Leslie Jordan, and Drew Kennedy.
The songwriter festival starts Thursday, Aug. 6.

At the end of the week, the Alpine Public Library will host the behavioral and developmental health group Permicare.
The event is free and open to the public and for anyone who wants to learn more about mental health.
Members of the Permicare team will be at the library sharing services to help adults and children who are struggling with, or managing and improving their mental health on their own. Permicare visits the Alpine Public Library on Friday, August 7 at 4:30 p.m. in the community room.

Later this month (AUGUST), the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute hosts their annual BBQ and auction fundraiser.
The event helps raise money for CDRI programming throughout the next year. In addition to the silent auction, and the BBQ dinner, there will also be live music from Rick Ruiz and A Few Too Many.
The fundraiser is Saturday, Aug. 15 at 3:30 p.m.
