Tomorrow (TUESDAY), local officials will hold the next city council meeting. 

According to an agenda for the meeting, council members are set to discuss the status of repairs and improvements to the city pool, and they’ll also talk about extending the pool season and operating hours. Officials will also talk about the joint use of Manuel Payne field between the city and Alpine ISD.

The city council will also adopt a new city logo to be used in public communications, marketing and branding efforts

The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. at the city council chambers. 


Crews with the Texas Department of Transportation have just completed a project to improve the pull-off area near the iconic Prada Marfa art installation near Valentine.

A spokesperson for TxDOT tells KVLF: “While the area was not paved, base aggregate was added to enhance visitor access and parking conditions.”


This week, the Small Business Development Center at Sul Ross State University will again offer more training courses for entrepreneurs and their businesses. 

The first training this week will help you identify HR red flags and will go through issues concerning employers, trends in HR and issues. This webinar is tomorrow (TUESDAY) from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

The next training will go over the best practices for managing the firing process: from setting clear policies and communicating with employees to responding to regulatory agencies. In this session, business owners and managers will be introduced to compliance standards, key steps for developing practices that support their organization’s culture, and cautions to help defend their business. This session’s Tuesday, April 28 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.


On Wednesday, Alpine High School theater students will perform “Blood Wedding” at the Alpine ISD auditorium. 

The performance starts at 7:00 p.m., and is free and open to the public. 


This weekend, the Big Bend Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas will hold a plant sale.

The group will have a variety of plants for sale, from native plants and cacti to perennials, flowering plants and shrubs.

The sale takes place Saturday, April 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 308 W. Ave E in Alpine. 

Cash, checks and cards will be accepted.


The local nonprofit Alpine Community Projects is hosting a meet up for people that own short-term rentals in the city. 

The group is looking to connect with rental owne as part of its goal for supporting, energizing and undertaking projects that help Alpine flourish. 

The event happens May 4 at 4:30 p.m. at the Old School House.

Next month (MAY), Leadership Big Bend will host a volunteer event at Sul Ross.

The volunteer event will give the tri-county area an opportunity to connect with and get involved in different nonprofit groups across the region. You’ll learn about all the ways you can volunteer and support your community.

The volunteer event will be May 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Sul Ross State University.


“Lights Out, Texas,” a statewide campaign to reduce the mortality rates of migratory birds, is now underway.

Help birds that fly over Texas during their migratory season by turning off all non-essential lights at your home, building or any other structures from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. each night. Lights Out Texas asks you don’t use landscape lighting for trees or gardens where birds may be resting. You can also close blinds at night to reduce the amount of light being emitted from windows.

The lights out campaign happens until June 15 for birds’ springtime migration.
