Tomorrow Alpine officials meet for their regular city council meeting – taking place at the council chambers at 803 W. Holland Avenue. 

The workshop and city council meeting starts at 4 – you can find a full agenda for the meeting online at cityofalpine.com.


And later this week, the Brewster County Groundwater Conservation District holds its next district meeting. Among other items on the agenda is a discussion on production permits for QUOTE “large commercial endeavors.”

The conservation district, which manages groundwater resources in the county, meets Thursday, April 17.

The auction period for Alpine Christian School’s annual fundraiser opens tomorrow (TUESDAY). To enter the auction, participants must head to auctria.com to register to bid. 

The school’s “Starry Knight” event – which features a live performance by the Mark Odom Band – will take place May 3 at the ACS Pavillion, beginning at 6.

The theme for the next show at the Big Bend Gallery in Alpine is “Dark Skies.” And artists looking to submit a piece have until tomorrow (TUESDAY) to get their work in.

The show opens April 17 and will coincide with the Dark Skies Festival happening in Alpine this month. An opening reception for the show is this Friday, April 18, from 5 to 7 p.m.


TransPecos Banks is now accepting applications for its 2025 Future Leaders Scholarship! This is the 7th year the bank has offered scholarships to high school seniors in West Texas seeking a higher education. Last year, the bank gave out $35,000 in scholarship awards.

The Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute will hold its Spring Adopt-a-Highway cleanup later this week on Thursday, April 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00. 

CDRI will provide volunteers with breakfast snacks, trash bags, vests, and long-handled trash grabbers. Volunteers need to wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, gloves, hat, and sunscreen.

This weekend, to celebrate the start of National Parks Week, the Blackwell School in Marfa will screen the film “Deep in the Heart,” a documentary celebrating the wonders of Texas’ wildlife and landscapes.

The viewing will be followed by a Q&A with the film producer Katy Baldock. 

Watch “Deep in the Heart” on Saturday, April 19  at 7 p.m. at the Blackwell School National Historic site – located at 501 S. Abbott Street in Marfa. 


Later in April, the Alpine Public Library will host its next “Travel Talk.” This month’s conversation features Bobby Gleeson who will talk about travel photography. The talk takes place April 25 at 7 p.m. at the library.

The Big Bend Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas will host a plant sale later this month in Alpine.

On Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. you can purchase native plants, cacti, flowering plants, perennials and shrubs. The sale takes place at 308 W. Ave E.
