Alpine ISD has opened online registration for students looking to enroll for the 2025-26 school year.
Returning student registration is open until May 22. And both new and returning students will need to complete their online registration ahead of the start of the new school year
If you’re ready to register your student, head to Alpine ISD’s website – and under the “parents” tab click “registration.”

The Alpine City Council will have its regular city council meeting tomorrow at 5:30 p.m. at the city council chambers, located at 803 W. Holland Avenue.

This weekend, the cross-border celebration Voices From Both Sides returns.
Organizers are inviting people across the region to head to Paso Lajitas, along the border in South Brewster County, Saturday, May 10 starting at 11 a.m. They say, it will be a beautiful day for fellowship and music with family and friends.
The cross-border party started in 2013 to celebrate the connections between Lajitas, Texas and Paso Lajitas, Chihuahua.
Next week, the Fort Davis National Historic Site will take visitors through the history of the Army’s camel experiment in Fort Davis in the 1850s.
On May 14 and 15, at the historic site, there will be living history presentations, featuring Doug Baum and his camels. Kathi Appelt will be there as well to give a presentation on her latest book, “Once Upon a Camel.”
The author will also appear at Front Street Books in Alpine on Monday, May 12. The meet-and-greet with the author is free and open to the public.
Next week, head to Big Bend Ranch State Park for a ranger-guided hike of Cinco Tinajas pools.
Learn about the terrain and the pools of water that are life for all animals in Big Bend Ranch State Park.
The hike starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Cinco Tinajas trailhead. Make sure to bring your own water bottle, a hat and dress for the weather.
The guided hike is free with your purchase of a day-use pass, which is $5 for adults and children under 12 are free. For more information head to the park’s website.
Later this month, the Texas Master Naturalist Tierra Grande chapter celebrates 20 years of providing education, outreach and services dedicated to the management of the region’s natural resources and natural areas.
You can join the group and share your experiences of being a Texas Master Naturalist on May 31 at the Ritchey in Alpine from 5 p.m. to 8. There will be food and a cash bar.

Next month, the two-day festival Smoke in the Mountains takes place in Fort Davis.
The family-friendly event is a fundraiser for Jeff Davis County first responders – it was founded in 2012 by Sara Adams following the devastating Rockhouse Fire that burned over 300,000 acres in the region.
This year’s event will be June 6 and 7 in Fort Davis at the courthouse lawn. There will be a BBQ competition, a silent auction, a cornhole tournament and a street dance featuring the Memphis Band and the Pecos River Band.
