David Eric Molinar, a beloved son, brother, father, and cherished member of the Alpine community has passed away. He was 53.
Born in Alpine, David graduated from Marfa High School in Marfa, before pursuing higher education at the University of Houston. On top of his studies, David was also a passionate running back, proudly wearing the number 35 jersey.
Along with football, he enjoyed playing rugby and was an enthusiastic supporter of Houston’s professional sports teams—the Texans, the Rockets, and the Astros.
As the founder and operator of “A+ Premium Movers,” David infused his work with the same passion and dedication that marked his personal life. His business was more than a pursuit of livelihood, it was a way for him to connect with people.
Known for his quick wit and humor, David could always be counted on to share a joke or lift the spirits in the room. He was also deeply rooted in his Catholic faith. His beliefs shaped a life committed to kindness, laughter, and service.
David treasured Christmastime, taking in the first snow each winter as a magical moment to gather and create lasting memories. Simple joys like savoring his mother’s home-cooked meals or capturing precious moments with his camera brought him immense happiness.
David leaves behind a legacy of love through those closest to him: his parents, his four sisters and his daughter.
The community will gather to honor David’s life with a visitation next week on June 3 from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m., followed by a rosary at 9:30 a.m., and a mass at 10:00 a.m.
All services will take place at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.
The day will conclude with an inurnment at Holy Angels Cemetery beginning at 12:15 p.m., a sacred moment where family, friends, and loved ones will say their final farewell.

For the second time in as many days, the city of Alpine is lowering its water restrictions. According to officials, the change to stage 2 restrictions in the city’s drought contingency and water conservation plan comes after marked improvement in the municipal water distribution system.

In a press release, officials said the city was lowering water restrictions once again because the water distribution system has remained stable and water storage tanks have QUOTE “maintained full operational levels without the need for additional external water support.”
Moving to Stage 2 restrictions comes shortly after the city brought back online a previously used municipal well, which city officials say has, in part, helped stabilize the distribution system.
The city will soon start drilling a new municipal well to replace one that fell into disrepair last month.

As part of the lowered restrictions, irrigating landscaped areas and gardens is limited to Sundays and Thursdays for people with even-numbered addresses and Saturdays and Wednesdays for those with odd-numbered addresses.
And filling or adding water to swimming pools, wading pools, or Jacuzzi-type pools is

The Big Bend Arts Council is calling on all artists to submit work for their next show “Landscapes, Near and Far.”
The group’s looking for any homemade or original work depicting a landscape, and there are no restrictions on the materials or techniques used.
The take-in deadline for the show is June 2 at Big Bend Gallery, located at 121 W. Holland Ave. Artwork must be brought in before the end of the workday. The gallery’s open Thursday through Tuesday, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
An opening reception for the show is Friday, June 5 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the gallery.

Next week, city officials will hold a workshop to discuss potential updates to the handbook for city employees, which will be followed by the next council meeting.
According to the agenda for the June 2 meeting, council members are set to approve an ordinance that establishes regulations for QUOTE “human-wildlife interactions.” The council will also award the recipients of this year’s Community Services Grant Program, which includes the Children’s Advocacy Center of the Big Bend, the Family Crisis Center of the Big Bend, and the Sunshine House.

Next weekend, head to the Alpine Public Library for their inaugural putt putt golf weekend.
For just two days in June, the library will transform into a mini-golf course, providing fun for the whole family. The first day for putt putt at the library will be Saturday, June 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday night, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. will be reserved for golfers 21 and up – and wine and beer will be included. The second day for family fun will be Sunday, June 7 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
All ages and skill levels are welcome. Tickets are $5 per person or $25 for the family. And even if you pay one time, you can play both days.

David Eric Molinar, un amado hijo, hermano, padre y miembro muy querido de la comunidad de Alpine, ha fallecido. Tenía 53 años.

Por segunda vez en igual número de días, la ciudad de Alpine está flexibilizando sus restricciones de agua. Según las autoridades, el cambio a las restricciones de la Etapa 2 —dentro del plan de contingencia ante la sequía y conservación del agua de la ciudad— se produce tras una notable mejora en el sistema municipal de distribución de agua.

El paso a las restricciones de la Etapa 2 se produce poco después de que la ciudad volviera a poner en funcionamiento un pozo municipal previamente utilizado; según las autoridades locales, este hecho ha contribuido, en parte, a estabilizar el sistema de distribución.
Próximamente, la ciudad comenzará la perforación de un nuevo pozo municipal para reemplazar a uno que quedó fuera de servicio el mes pasado debido a su deterioro.
