Good evening, today is Thursday, May 19th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
Visitation for Dan Bihl Dunagan of Alpine will be Friday and services Saturday. The longtime Sul Ross supporter and coach died Tuesday at age 73.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Alpine Memorial Funeral Home Chapel and services at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with burial to follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
Dan was born August 31, 1948, in Monahans. Always a Lobo, Dan played football for the Monahans Loboes in high school and then became a Sul Ross Lobo.
He graduated from Sul Ross State University with a business degree in 1974. During that time, he married Patricia Ann Card.
Dan went on to manage and own The Coca Cola Bottling Company in Alpine and flew his Coca Cola airplane, even down to Mexico City.
He left the corporate business world in 1987 and served at Sul Ross Baptist Student Ministry for 25 years and led many student teams to China.
Dan became an ordained minister and counselor and served as an interim pastor for several years and as a full-time pastor at Marathon Baptist Church for five years.
He returned to athletics in 2008 where he was the Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ huddle coach at Sul Ross and led several Fellowship teams to Alaska to conduct sports camps for youth.
Dan was inducted into the Sul Ross Athletic Hall of Honors just last March.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter and five grandchildren.

Our Congressman Tony Gonzales and Elissa Slotkin of Michigan have introduced two bills to prevent migrant surges at the southern border and combat human trafficking.
The Emergency Migration Response Act and the Border Security and Migrant Safety Act would direct the Department of Homeland Security to treat migration surges like natural disasters.
In the last year, trans-national criminal organizations made 1.7 billion dollars by smuggling migrants just from the three Northern Triangle countries.
Gonzales said a record number of border crossings, that included migrant deaths, have allowed cartels to make billions off vulnerable populations.
He said it is past due for Congress to provides a bipartisan solution that secures our borders and begins the conversation about legal immigration.
The Big Bend Regional Hospital District said the next “Mammos on the Move” mobile mammograms by Desert Imaging will be in the area from June 6 to the 10.
They will start off in Presidio Monday, June 6, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Presidio Activity Center at 1200 O’Reilly Street.
Then the “mom-mobile” will move to Terlingua Fire and E.M.S. Station at 23250 Highway 170 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. June 7.
On the 8th and 9th, it will be at the Big Bend Regional Medical Center in Alpine from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
They’ll close off their circuit from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the tenth at the Presidio County Courthouse at 300 Highland Street in Marfa.
Before you visit, it’s important to know that it must be a year since your last mammogram, you must be 40 years of age or older and bring I.D. and insurance card to your appointment.

Applications are now being accepted for the next Law Enforcement Academy and Basic Peace Officer Course at Sul Ross.
The course will begin August 1 with a cost of 49 hundred and 90 dollars and that includes tuition and fees with no additional cost for uniforms, ammunition or anything else.

En el último año, las organizaciones criminales transnacionales ganaron 1.700 millones de dólares traficando migrantes solo de los tres países del Triángulo Norte.
