Brian Larremore has passed away. He was 80.
Brian lived his life as he wished for the most part, which is a rare accomplishment during these trying times. He was a police officer at Sul Ross State University for 21 years and loved being with the students.
Before working at Sul Ross, he was a deputy in Marathon with the Brewster County Sheriff’s office. But most of all, Brian was a rancher and always said that “he had to work to afford his bad habit of ranching”.
Everyone who met Brian knew him as the “Old Cowboy” with a cigar hanging out of his mouth. During his time at Sul Ross, the students had several names for him: Smokey, OG (old guy), Black Hat or just Larremore. They all respected Brian because he was a fair and compassionate man.
He was a hardworking, God loving and believer, a gentleman who counted himself lucky to have such great friends and family. A man with pride but was not prideful. His word was his bond. If he shook hands with you, that was his promise and expected the same from others. Brian never wore his heart on his sleeve but you could tell that his heart was good and as strong as his word.
During his last days, Brian was lovingly cared for by his wife of 25 years, Jean Larremore. And during his short time in hospice, nurse Jess Langridge of Alpine watched over him.
Brian is also survived by his son; two grandchildren, two siblings and a step son. Besides his immediate family Brian has numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He also has so many friends that he counted as family.
Brian and Jean would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those special people in his life that visited, phoned or texted him during his time of illness and passing.
A memorial will be held for Brian in the near future.
You are and always will be loved and missed Brian Larremore. Ride high and stay on the top side.

Next week, the city of Alpine will hold its next council meeting.
According to an agenda, council members are set to discuss repairs, infrastructure improvements and overall progress on a project to fix the city pool.
And in light of recent mandatory water restrictions, the city will also consider and approve of a plan for the pool for the summer swim season. Council members are also set to consider a resolution increasing water utility rates to help the city cover debt taken to pay for a new municipal well, which could cost up to $1 million.

At the end of the month (MAY), join Front Street Books at the Ritchey for their first ever book fair for adults.
The event will feature live music, book picks from Front Street Books staff, and special drinks from the Ritchey.
Tickets for the event are $35 in advance and $45 at the door.
Admission includes a Front Street Books swag bag, one staff pick from a featured books table, a drink, and one raffle entry.

The book fair takes place Saturday, May 23 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at The Ritchey.

Then on Tuesday, May 26, the Jeff Davis County Library in Fort Davis presents a day with Rachel Más Davidson.
That morning at 10:00 a.m., the library will host an improv story time with Davidson and invite children to create an original story and a group illustration. And later that day, at 1 p.m., Davidson will talk about what it’s like to be a professional artist and narrate the items on exhibit.
Davidson is the writer of two children’s books and illustrator of six books.

At the end of the month (MAY), Big Bend Telephone will host their third annual golf tournament at the Alpine Country Club.
The tournament is a three-person scramble with 27 overall teams competing for the top spot. Entry is $85 per person and proceeds benefit the Alpine Humane Society.
The scramble is May 30 with tee off beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Brian Larremore ha fallecido. Tenía 80 años.
Brian vivió su vida tal como deseaba, en su mayor parte; un logro poco común en estos tiempos difíciles. Fue oficial de policía en la Universidad Estatal Sul Ross durante 21 años y le encantaba estar con los estudiantes.
Antes de trabajar en Sul Ross, fue ayudante del sheriff en Marathon, adscrito a la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Brewster. Pero, ante todo, Brian era ganadero y siempre decía que «tenía que trabajar para poder costearse su “mal hábito” de dedicarse a la ganadería».
Durante sus últimos días, Brian recibió los amorosos cuidados de su esposa de 25 años, Jean Larremore. Y durante su breve estancia en cuidados paliativos, la enfermera Jess Langridge, de Alpine, veló por él.
A Brian le sobreviven también su hijo, dos nietos, dos hermanos y un hijastro. Además de su familia directa, Brian deja atrás a numerosos sobrinos y tíos. Asimismo, contaba con muchísimos amigos a los que consideraba parte de su familia.
Brian y Jean desean expresar su más sincero agradecimiento a todas aquellas personas especiales en la vida de Brian que lo visitaron, llamaron por teléfono o le enviaron mensajes durante su enfermedad y en el momento de su partida.
Próximamente se celebrará un acto conmemorativo en honor a Brian.

La próxima semana, la ciudad de Alpine celebrará su próxima reunión del concejo municipal.
Según el orden del día, los miembros del concejo tienen previsto debatir sobre reparaciones, mejoras en la infraestructura y el progreso general de un proyecto destinado a arreglar la piscina municipal.
Asimismo, a la luz de las recientes restricciones obligatorias en el uso del agua, la ciudad considerará y aprobará un plan para la piscina de cara a la temporada de baño de verano. Los miembros del concejo también tienen previsto considerar una resolución para aumentar las tarifas del servicio de agua, con el fin de ayudar a la ciudad a cubrir la deuda contraída para financiar un nuevo pozo municipal, cuyo costo podría ascender hasta un millón de dólares.
