Good evening, today is Friday, May 13th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
Dr. Adrian Billings of Alpine has announced through ads in area newspapers that he has accepted a position at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in the Permian Basin.
Billings, who heads the medical team at Preventive Care Health Services in Alpine and Marfa, will continue to see patients here until July 29 and still will live in Alpine.
His new job is as Associate Academic Dean beginning August 1 and he will work remotely and commute when necessary.
He will work toward creating a pipeline for rural students into health care training. He frequently has worked with interns and other medical students in the area.
Billings said he will continue to be involved with P.C.H.S., which will allow him to expand health care services in the Big Bend area.
We learn more about the proposed Chisos Brewery which is expected to open in the summer of next year at 102 East Murphy Street.
The Fielders, including Guy, wife Lisa and son Tim, are planning the new brewery and Lisa talked at an Alpine Downtown Association mixer this week.
Fielder: “Our whole brewery is conceived as a celebration of this region. Of the history, of the native plants and fauna, of the mining history, the railroad history, the cattle history. And we look forward to building it out soon.”
Fielder was one of about ten speakers at the informal gathering.
Also covered were Alpine Radio, Gallery Night, Alpine Wine, B.R.I., Alpine Historical Association, S.B.D.C. and Alpine Community Projects.
Alpine’s newly-elected Mayor Caherine Eaves said she chose Alpine for the people and the relationships local businesses have.
Eaves: “That’s the big draw to this town. Yes, we do have beauty, yes, we do have history, but we have us the people. Very Unique.”
Eaves will be sworn in at 5:30 Tuesday evening and will retire from teaching full time on May 20.
The A.D.A. business meeting will be May 25 in the Board Room of the Visitor Center.
The Judd Foundation will host a Ranch Day celebration Sunday at Casa Perez with food, music and a presentation from Sul Ross’s Borderlands Research Institute.
The free event is open to the public from 10 to 1 with the presentation starting at 10:30 and free food from Convenience West from 11 to noon on a first-come, first-served basis.
Dr. Carlos “Lalo” Gonzalez and Froylan Hernandez will talk about their work in Desert Bighorn Sheep conservation.
Gonzalez is the Nau Endowed Professor of Habitat Management and Research & Assistant Professor in Range Management at B.R.I.
Hernandez is the Desert Bighorn Sheep Program Leader with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
Casa Perez is one of Donald Judd’s three ranch houses located south of Ranch Road 2810 ten miles past the end of the paved road.

A TxDOT Workshop in Midland Wednesday will be one in a series of workshops into the 2023 Texas Freight Mobility Plan, also known as Texas Delivers 2050.
The workshops are to receive input from freight shippers, carriers, facility operators and other stakeholders on freight needs and challenges, along with solutions and recommendations.
Additional in-person workshops will be in Houston and in Brownsville and virtual workshops will be in June.
Wednesday’s in-person workshop will be from 1 to 3 pm. at Midland Shared Spaces at 3500 North A Street.

Un taller de TxDOT en Midland el miércoles será uno de una serie de talleres sobre el Plan de Movilidad de Carga de Texas 2023, también conocido como Texas Delivers 2050.
Los talleres recibirán aportes de los transportistas, operadores de instalaciones y otras partes interesadas sobre las necesidades y los desafíos del transporte, junto con soluciones y recomendaciones.
