Good evening, today is Thursday, May 12th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
The proposed Chisos Brewery at 102 East Murphy Street will give Alpine a craft brewery for the first time since Big Bend Brewery ceased operations in 2018. But it won’t be the same.
Lisa Fielder, who joins husband Guy and son Tim in planning the facility, said Big Bend was a micro-brewery with a capacity of 30 thousand barrels per year.
Its products were sold mostly off premises in canned beers sold in stores in a wide area.
Most of the Chisos sales will be on-site in a tap room with a capacity of 40 and the brewery will turn out 30 times less beer than was produced by Big Bend.
She said Chisos will be a family business serving Alpine families and visitors.
Fielder was one of about ten speakers at the informal gathering.
Also covered were Alpine Radio, Gallery Night, Alpine Wine, B.R.I., Alpine Historical Association, S.B.D.C. and Alpine Community Projects.
Alpine’s newly-elected Mayor Catherine Eaves said she chose Alpine because of the people. It’s people helping one another, she said. Eaves will be sworn in at 5:30 Tuesday evening.
The A.D.A. business meeting will be May 25 in the Board Room of the Visitor Center.
A total lunar eclipse will visit our area Sunday Night and McDonald Observatory will livestream the entire event on the McDonald Observatory YouTube Channel at 10 p.m.
Saul Rivera and Joe Sheelock will show live views from a camera attached to a telescope at the Frank N. Bash Visitor Center.
Rivera and Sheelock will discuss eclipses, how they occur and how they get pictures of them. They also will host an open-ended Q&A.
If you cannot make the livestream or miss the eclipse, the video feed still will be recorded and saved for later viewing.
Unlike a solar eclipse, it is safe to look at a lunar eclipse with the naked eye or view it with binoculars or a telescope for a better view.

Sheriff Ronny Dodson frequently posts on Facebook tongue-in-cheek stories to illustrate the effectiveness of deputies’ radios when someone tries to flee a traffic stop.
They are humorous with frequent tweets but the message is serious.
The latest posted Thursday tells of a deputy, a U.S. Border Patrol agent and police dog Latek and a traffic stop on Highway 67 Wednesday night.
“#sofarsogood. #nothingtoseehere.”
But as soon as the vehicle came to a stop, three suspects fled on foot and the vehicle sped off, only to stop again and three more suspects jumped out and ran.
The initial suspects were quickly arrested and those officers radioed to additional officers north of there. Those officers used stop sticks to flatten tires and the vehicle stopped again.
The driver, Theresa McCormick and passenger Adrian Escobedo, were arrested along with the other three suspects the post described as “track stars.”
The post asked how they knew Escobedo but he was “known for recent hits such as ‘I Was Arrested for Smuggling on April 27.’”

McCormick was charged with evading arrest with a vehicle and six counts of smuggling of persons.
Escobedo was charged with six counts of continuous smuggling of persons. The six others, who were from Mexico, were referred to the Border Patrol for processing and deportation. “#teamwork.”
