Luz Z. Ochoa of Marfa was laid to rest Friday at the Ochoa Family Cemetery in Presidio County. She died Monday, May 2, at age 86.
Luz was born on March 1, 1936, in Hidalgo del Parral, Chihuahua.
She was preceded in death by her first husband and her brothers and sisters. Surviving are her second husband, five children and 12 grandchildren.

For the first time in months, rain began in Alpine around 3 p.m. Forecasters say it won’t last. The system will move east and Wednesday is expected to be dry.
The Brewster County Sheriff’s Office posted Tuesday about a smuggling arrest Thursday evening.
Deputies and U.S. Border Patrol Agents interrupted a smuggling scheme involving two vehicles and seven illegal migrants from Mexico, including two juveniles.
The investigation showed both Jose Manuel Rodriguez de Velasco and Krista Nuñez Lujan were complicit in the entire scheme.
They both were charged with five counts of smuggling of persons and two counts of smuggling of persons under 18 years of age.
Lujan was charged with continuous smuggling of persons. Brewster County deputies had arrested her on April 24 for the same offense.
The migrants were referred to the Border Patrol for processing and deportation.
And Presidio County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a single-vehicle accident that occurred Tuesday morning on Highway 170 near Lajitas.
The vehicle was abandoned and no report was made to emergency services. The driver and passengers were later located in Lajitas and no injuries were reported.
The Presidio County Sheriff’s Office is looking for candidates for 9-1-1 dispatcher positions for those who can be the voice that’s the calm in the storm.
Successful candidates will receive requests for police, fire and emergency medical services, dispatch and deploy public safety units and notify other support services.
They will provide pre-arrival emergency medical instructions, operate telecommunications equipment, prepare reports and maintain files.
Beginning salary is $13.50 per hour. Within one year of hire when the applicant becomes fully licensed, pay increases to $16 per hour and all training for certifications are covered.
They must have an acceptable working knowledge of computer operations, stressing accuracy and speed, and be able to pass drug and psychological screening.
Benefits include full medical, dental and vision insurance, retirement and vacations.

The Alpine Independent School District is hosting a surplus sale of five vehicles and ten Hoover Vacuum Cleaners.
The Vehicles include a 2009 Chevy Cobalt, a 1989 Ford Van Truck, a 1982 Charter Bus, a 2003 and a 2008 G.M.C. Yukon.
All items have a minimum bid and all sales will be final with the seller accepting no liability for the condition of the items purchased.
Once a notification is made of an accepted bid, payment must be made and the item must be picked up by 4 p.m. Thursday, May 26.
