Good evening, today is Wednesday, March 9th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
Election returns from the March 1 Primary Election in Brewster County have been unofficial until Wednesday.
Both Republican and Democrat Parties in the county will make them official with their canvass scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
In years past, the County Commissioners formally canvassed the results but the law has changed and it now is the province of the individual parties.
A primary election is one in which each party selects a nominee to represent it at the November General Election.
The Democrat Party will canvass the results at 1 p.m. Thursday at 107 East Lockhart Avenue.
County Chair Mary Bell Lockhart said it is a public meeting and all are welcome to attend and observe the canvass of the results.
The Republican Party canvass will be at 6 p.m. at The Stable at 511 West Holland Avenue.
These meetings also are open to the public but, for those who cannot attend one or the other, contact the chairs, Lockhart for the Democrats and Monica McBride for the Republicans.

Sales Tax receipts delivered to area taxing authorities this week are again up sharply from the same month a year ago.
The March deliveries are on sales that were reported in February and occurred in January so these still compare to early 2021 when the world was still feeling the pandemic.
Only Presidio bucked the trend with a tiny 0.14% percent increase, still up but just barely.
As happens a lot lately, the Terlingua emergency services district, which partially funds Terlingua Fire and E.M.S., topped the increases at 70.25%.
Reflecting a boom in South County, the district took in $42,500 compared to just less than $25,000 a year ago.
Alpine’s receipts were up 32.33% to more than $152,000 and Marfa was up nearly 20% to $40,838.
Brewster County took in $87,000, up 18%, and tiny Jeff Davis County was up by 55.6% to $9,604.
Comptroller Glenn Hegar said he will send more than $900,000 to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts, up nearly 20% from last year.
A ribbon cutting is planned for 5:30 Thursday for a new shop, the Desert Palette, at 203 East Holland Avenue next to the Holland Hotel.
Sarah Freeman plans the curio shop with photo art and her two daughters, Abby and Elizabeth Freeman, are the featured artists.
It also will feature antique furniture, eclectic furnishings, home décor and unique finds like repurposed items.
The Alpine Ambassadors have been invited to participate in the ribbon cutting.
The next Big Bend Bluegrass Association Monthly Jam will be Saturday at Kokernot Municipal Park, of course weather permitting.
It will have jamming underneath the trees from 2 to 4:30 p.m. hosted by the Association.
Guests can bring their chairs, blankets and instrument of choice for an afternoon of fun and fellowship or just sit back and listen to the music.
The jam will be moved indoors if the weather does not cooperate at the park to 110 North 6th Street.
