The Center for Big Bend Studies at Sul Ross State University is seeking volunteers to help uncover a possible Clovis site at the O2 Ranch in Brewster County.
It might be at the Genevieve Lykes Duncan site between two significant drainages in an area with plant and animal resources.
They could provide an abundance of nearby lithics suitable for manufacturing stone artifacts.
The site contains multiple ancient human occupations, mostly deeply buried, with a few artifact materials visible on the surface.
Previous investigations have firmly established the presence of deeply buried hot-rock cooking ovens dating back 10,800 years, some of the oldest in North America.

Presidio County Justice of the Peace Court Precinct 1 has announced the 2023 roundup for unpaid citations issued by the Sheriff’s Office.
Individuals on a list posted on the county Facebook Page are asked to contact the court and resolve their citations before May 1.
Citizens may voluntarily resolve their citations without concern of being arrested before this date.
Those whose name is not on the list but who may have an outstanding citation should call the office of Judge Dina Jo Losoya Marquez at 729-4831.
Failure to resolve outstanding citations may result in an arrest warrant enforceable anywhere in the State.

The City of Alpine has issued a press release saying the enrollment period for budget billing is now open for water and natural gas utility accounts.
Customers who want to be billed on a monthly average must turn in the application by 5 p.m. May 15.
To qualify for budget billing, the utility account must have one year of service history, must but paid in full and must be in good standing with the city.
The Budget Billing Application is available at City Hall during normal business hours and online at cityofalpine.com/utilityforms.
Many local pet agencies are collaborating to bring a Pet Adoption and Fundraiser to the Granada Theatre from 10 to 2 April 15.
The City of Alpine, Big Bend Pets, Alpine Humane Society, Jethro Homeward Bound Pets and Grand Companions are working together to help citizens find the perfect pet.
The event will have meet-the-pet stations, information about spay and neuter clinics, information on pet care and more.
Later, the Granada will host local band night featuring The Swifts, Ross Fleming and M.S.T. at 6 p.m.
The event itself is free but a recommended donation of $10 is encouraged.

Jaeden Portillo is the new Miss Latina 2023, a title she won last weekend in Odessa.

The Brewster County Sheriff’s Department warns of a new scam attempting to defraud individuals by using phone calls reportedly originating from Amazon.
Do not share any information that could lead to fraud. That includes pins, passwords and other personal information.
Remember, don’t take the bait, validate. If you receive a call from an unknown number, hang up.
If you believe the claims may be valid, call the official number of the organization the original call claimed to be.

El Precinto 1 del Tribunal de Justicia de Paz del Condado de Presidio ha anunciado la redada de 2023 por citaciones no pagadas emitidas por la Oficina del Alguacil.
Se les pide a las personas en una lista publicada en la página de Facebook del condado que se comuniquen con el tribunal y resuelvan sus citaciones antes del 1 de mayo.
