Good evening, today is Tuesday, March 15th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
We have just received word that Patricia Tompkins of Marfa died February 20 at age 65.
She was born February 20, 1957, and spent some of her life in Marfa where she was a longtime cook for the Thunderbird restaurant.
She married Tommy Tompkins on December 13, 1997, and shared 23 years of marriage.
Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, a sister and a brother. Surviving are two children, 11 other siblings, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

The next production of the Sul Ross Theatre Program, “The Cake,” opens March 25 in the Sul Ross Studio Theatre.
It tells the story of Della, a sweet-natured Christian baker, who is asked to make a cake for a gay wedding and is forced to re-examine her beliefs and definition of love.
The Cake, a comedy by Bekah Brunstetter, was first produced in 2017 by the Echo Theatre Company in Los Angeles and premiered off Broadway in 2019 at the Manhattan Theatre Club.
Director Marjie Scott said the play deals with issues of religious freedom and same-sex marriage from a very personal perspective.
She said the play also is hopeful and funny, which is refreshing in these polarized times. Scott is associate professor of Theatre and Communication.
The Cake runs weekends March 25 through April 10 and contains mature themes, language and partial nudity Parental guidance is recommended.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays.
Tickets are 12 dollars for general admission, 10 for seniors over 65 and free for veterans and active military.

The City of Alpine will host a surplus car auction with vehicles from every department at 9 a.m. April 9 at the Alpine Recycle Center at 2705 Cemetery Road.
All vehicles will be available for bidding “as is” and once purchased the City of Alpine will deliver vehicles immediately as all sales are final.
Vehicles for sale include a 1975 Ford Tractor, F-250 and F-350 Super Duties, Chevy Silverados, dodge chargers and more.

A total of 17 illegal migrants were caught trespassing onto private property Monday in two separate groups by Border Patrol, D.P.S. Air Operations and Brewster County deputies.
In the morning, Border Patrol agents and D.P.S. Air Operations responded to remote southeastern Brewster County to a group of 14 illegal entrants, all from Mexico.
Monday afternoon Brewster County Deputies apprehended three illegal entrants from Guatemala in South Brewster County.
All suspects were referred to the U.S. Border Patrol for processing and deportation.
The Borderlands Research Institute has scheduled a Summit on Healthy Lands and Energy Development April 6 in Midland.
It will deal with how best to minimize the impacts of energy development on natural resources in far West Texas.
The summit will explore ideas for reducing negative impacts of energy development through voluntary projects that engage landowners, community leaders and energy companies.
The summit is the latest effort of the Respect Big Bend coalition, which is working to inform Big Bend community members on recent energy projections.
It will be 8 to 5 April 6 at the Midland Horseshoe Arena. Register by April 1 at respectbigbend.org/events.
