Services for Roslyn Malloy Kerley, who passed away in Fort Davis in late January, will be this weekend. She was 35.
Throughout her life, Roslyn had a strong work ethic and was deeply connected to both the land and her family’s roots. She had a creative spirit and a warm heart. Roslyn will be remembered for her adventurous nature, her kindness, and her love of the outdoors.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 14 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Balmorhea Community Center.

Services for Jose “Joe” Luis Zubiate are also this weekend. Joe passed away in February in Odessa. He was 85.
Joe was drafted into the United States Army in November 1963 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. After completing his military service, Joe attended Sul Ross State University, where he earned a degree in business and accounting. He went on to serve as the maintenance supervisor for the Texas Department of Transportation in Presidio for 22 years.
Services for Joe will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marfa. The funeral mass begins at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at the Marfa Cemetery.
Friends and family are invited to join the family for lunch at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Hall following the burial.

Tomorrow (FRIDAY), the Nature Conservancy will host the first of two guided tours of our Davis Mountains Preserve.
The hikes are Friday, March 13 and again on Friday, March 20. On the hikes, you’ll learn about the beautiful Davis Mountains sky island ecosystem.
Reservations and a high clearance vehicle are required.

Next week, city and county officials will come together to address emergency medical services in the Alpine area.
On Tuesday, March 17, the city of Alpine will hold a joint workshop with Brewster County officials to go over recommendations from a taskforce that held town halls earlier this year to gather feedback on ground ambulance services in the region.
That workshop starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Brewster County Courthouse, located at 201 W. Ave. E Alpine.

Later this month (MARCH), the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center and Botanical Gardens will host a cactus and Succulent Sale.
The sale will be March 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at CDRI, located off of Highway 118, just 4 miles southeast of Fort Davis.

In April, the Big Bend Arts Council will present its next show, “Dark Skies,” a celebration through art of the beauty and importance of the famously dark nighttime sky in Far West Texas.
The opening reception for the show is April 3, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m at the Big Bend Gallery, located at 121 W. Holland Avenue.

Next month (April), the local nonprofit Alpine Community Projects will host its third community conversation on elder care in the region and how to provide for the Big Bend’s aging population.
The meeting is Wednesday, April 8 at 5:30 p.m. at the old schoolhouse.

A lo largo de su vida, Roslyn tuvo una sólida ética de trabajo y una profunda conexión con la tierra y las raíces de su familia. Poseía un espíritu creativo y un gran corazón. Roslyn será recordada por su naturaleza aventurera, su amabilidad y su amor por la naturaleza.
El sábado 14 de marzo, de 1:00 a 4:00, se celebrará una celebración de la vida en el Centro Comunitario de Balmorhea.

Este fin de semana también se celebrarán los servicios fúnebres de José “Joe” Luis Zubiate. Joe falleció en febrero en Odessa a los 85 años.
Joe fue reclutado por el Ejército de los Estados Unidos en noviembre de 1963 y sirvió con orgullo a su país durante la Guerra de Vietnam. Los servicios fúnebres de Joe comenzarán a las 10:30 a. m. del sábado 14 de marzo en la Iglesia Católica de Santa María en Marfa. La misa funeral comenzará a las 11:00 a. m. y el entierro se realizará posteriormente en el Cementerio de Marfa.
Se invita a familiares y amigos a almorzar con la familia en el Salón de la Iglesia Católica de Santa María después del entierro.

Mañana (viernes), Nature Conservancy ofrecerá la primera de dos visitas guiadas a nuestra Reserva de las Montañas Davis.
Las caminatas se realizarán el viernes 13 de marzo y nuevamente el viernes 20 de marzo. En ellas, aprenderá sobre el hermoso ecosistema de islas aéreas de las Montañas Davis.
Se requiere reservación y un vehículo de gran cilindrada.

La próxima semana, funcionarios de la ciudad y el condado se reunirán para abordar los servicios médicos de emergencia en la zona de Alpine.
El martes 17 de marzo, la ciudad de Alpine realizará un taller conjunto con funcionarios del condado de Brewster para revisar las recomendaciones de un grupo de trabajo que realizó reuniones públicas a principios de este año para recopilar comentarios sobre los servicios de ambulancia terrestre en la región.
El taller comienza a las 9:30 a. m. en el Palacio de Justicia del Condado de Brewster, ubicado en 201 W. Ave. E Alpine.

A finales de este mes (MARZO), el Centro de Naturaleza y Jardín Botánico del Desierto de Chihuahua organizará una venta de cactus y suculentas.
La venta se realizará el 16 de marzo de 9:00 a. m. a 5:00 p. m. en el CDRI, ubicado junto a la carretera 118, a solo 6.4 km al sureste de Fort Davis.

En abril, el Consejo de Artes de Big Bend presentará su próxima exposición, “Cielos Oscuros”, una celebración a través del arte de la belleza e importancia del famoso cielo nocturno oscuro del extremo oeste de Texas.
La recepción inaugural de la exposición será el 3 de abril, de 5:00 a 7:00, en la Galería Big Bend, ubicada en 121 W. Holland Avenue.
