Good evening, today is Friday, March 11th, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.
Services will be April 2 for Siria Acosta Toscano of Marfa, who died February 19 at age 64. Rosary will be cited at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church followed by a funeral mass.
Also known as Sid Vicious, she was born on February 15, 1958, and raised on Catholic values and rock and roll tendencies.
She was a strong supporter of Marfa, including school fundraisers, church bazaars and benefit concerns.
Surviving are two sons, five sisters, four grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
The family asks for donations in lieu of flowers.
We had some calls about what appeared to a be a military parade along 5th Street and Avenue E. Friday morning.
It was law enforcement officers taking part in the U.S. Marshall’s Services national Fallen Heroes Run in honor of all law enforcement officers who died in the line of all duty.
It may not have seemed like it Friday but spring is about a week away and Cinco de Mayo is already in the news.
The kickoff will be on Thursday, May 5, with an Enchilada Supper from 5 to 7 pm. at Alpine Elementary with D. J. Portillo, TRAD Dance Troupe and Fort Davis Folklorico Dancers.
Vendors at the Gran Mercado on Historic Murphy Street will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday with D.J. Rick Ruiz performing from 11 to 2.
Murphy Street activities that evening will include, Los Gringos at 6, Danza Folklorica de Buena Vista at 6:30 and Gringos again at 7.
The Cinco de Mayo Parade will start at 11 a.m. Saturday down Holland Avenue. Grand Marshals will be Dona Olivia Ramos and Dona Angelita Valenzuela.
The Gran Mercado will be open from 11 to 11 with Master of Ceremonies Robert Alvarez and a Car Show will be in memory of Kaleena Ramos.
The car, truck, motorcycle and bicycle show will be from 1 to 4.
Meanwhile, the Marfa I.S.D. Baile Folklorica will be at 1, the Fort Davis Folklorico Dancers at 2, the Epic Energy Studio at 3, car show presentations at 4 and Mariachi Santa Cruz at 5.
That evening will have Celebrando el Dia de las Madres, a “Free” Dance Under the Stars with Los Spring Boyz at 6, Mariachi Santa Cruz at 8 and Puro Party All Starz at 9.
The Danza Guadalupe Matachines Ministry at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church will present the Alpine Multicultural Festival June 11 and 12 at Kokernot Park.
The weekend family-oriented event will focus on multicultural music/dance entertainment, educational art and crafts displays, food and merchandise booths and activities for children.

The Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine along with the Texas Rural Health Association will host free health clinics in our area.
First will be a clinic from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at the Big Bend Baptist Church in Study Butte.
The second will be at the Presidio Activity Center in Presidio from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.
While no covid tests or vaccines will be available at the free clinics, they will be able to provide sport and work physicals, muscle and joint therapy and ultrasound imaging.
They will also have A.1.C. testing for diabetes, blood pressure checks, medication reviews, adult and pediatric care and wellness exams.
