Brewster County commissioners have unanimously approved a resolution opposing the construction of a border wall in the Big Bend.
Speaking at county commissioners court this (TUESDAY) morning, County Judge Greg Henington said other counties are considering similar resolution.
HENINGTON1: “Y’all know that the update last week is that they seem to be moving forward with a technology solution as opposed to a physical wall, but I don’t know that. And I don’t think our foot needs to get off the pedal yet.” (0:13)
According to Marfa Public Radio, sometime last week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection removed two stretches of planned border wall projects in the Big Bend, and now have “detection technology” projects planned instead.

Meanwhile, a coalition of five county sheriffs has come together to also express their opposition to a border wall in the Big Bend.
The sheriffs – representing Brewster, Culberson, Hudspeth Presidio and Terrell counties – said the region’s geography is itself a barrier and that a physical wall wouldn’t be the “most practical or strategic approach to border security in this area.”
In a detailed letter to federal and state officials, the sheriffs suggested alternatives to help with border security, including surveillance systems and drones and more personnel.

This Friday, the members of the onetime south county group Just Us Girls are coming together for a reunion show.
Performing now as Desert Songbirds, the group plays at the Ritchey in Alpine.
Evie Dorsey spoke with KVLF about the upcoming show.
DORSEY1: Martin: “Harmonies was a big thing about your band if I remember. Evie: “It still is. We say, ‘have you made yourself cry yet?’ It is really lovely, we’re all blessed is what it is, that we can sing together. It’s the joy that comes out of it too that makes it meaningful.” (0:21)

Tomorrow (WEDNESDAY), the Small Business Development Center at Sul Ross State University will host two training opportunities for business owners.
The first workshop will help you figure out how to manage your finances, teach you common practices and introduce you to tools to start and grow your business. That training is Wednesday, March 11 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Ten former Sul Ross Lobos will be honored at the university’s 38th annual alumni gala later this month.
On Saturday, March 21 distinguished alumni, rodeo exes, athletes and friends will be inducted into the Hall of Honor. The evening will begin with a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and the ceremony.
Tickets are $75 for adults and $25 for children under the age of 12.
The event will be at the Gallego Center in Alpine.

Diez exalumnos de Sul Ross Lobos serán homenajeados en la 38.ª gala anual de exalumnos de la universidad, que se celebrará a finales de este mes.
