Wesley Roach of Alpine has died after a lengthy illness. He was 73.
Wes was born in Big Lake, Texas, but by 1963, his family moved to Alpine, where he attended the public schools, graduating from Alpine High School in 1972. He was one of the original “Roach boys” and was known for his mischievous nature and sense of adventure, both of which stayed with him throughout his life.
Wes married his high school sweetheart, Patty Bennack, in 1975. He served in the Air Force from 1976 to 1980, and after beginning their married life in Alpine, they adventured to Austin, Arizona, and Alaska, hitting many “A” destinations before returning to the original “A” – Alpine in 1994, where they raised their daughter, Jessica. Wes was a well-known home builder in the area, recognized for his knowledge, skill, and craftsmanship.
He is survived by his wife, Patty, his daughter and her husband, and a granddaughter. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; five nephews, as well as an uncle and numerous cousins.

Beginning tomorrow (WEDNESDAY) and continuing through the week, the Small Business Development Center at Sul Ross State University will host a slate of training sessions for business owners to improve their work and discover new ways to approach business.
The first online course will teach you everything you need to craft a winning capability statement. You can think of capability statements as your business’ resume – it’s a one-page document outlining your business’s competencies when you’re seeking government contracting. During this one-hour webinar, you’ll learn five key areas to craft a comprehensive statement.
This webinar is tomorrow (WEDNESDAY) June 24 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.
Then on Thursday, learn how to construct your very own website. That training will go from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on June 25.
And on Friday, the last course for the week will tell you about the key missteps to avoid when growing your business. This one-hour training is Friday June 26 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

On Friday, head to the Alpine Public Library for the next presentation in the library’s Travel Talk series.
This week, Rick Gupman, the superintendent at Big Bend National Park, will give a behind-the-scenes look at Wicklow Mountains National Park, the largest national park in Ireland. Rick will discuss his trip to the Wicklow Mountains and talk about the many issues the park has to deal with.
The talk happens Friday, June 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the Alpine Public Library.

Later this summer, the Borderlands Research Institute at Sul Ross will host a three-day conference about tackling issues, strengthening partnerships and sustaining lands to support wildlife across Texas.
BRI, along with the Texas Wildlife Association and Texas Parks and Wildlife, will bring together landowners, industry experts, and like-minded conservationists to cover emerging issues in the Trans-Pecos, big game and non-game research and management, applied management, and land stewardship.
The Trans-Pecos Wildlife Conference takes place August 5 through 7 at the Morgan Center at Sul Ross.

The Museum of the Big Bend is inviting children between the ages of 4 and 10 to explore their creativity during the museum’s annual Summer Art Camp.
The camp will run from July 20 and 24 at the museum’s Cultural Events Center on the Sul Ross
State University campus.
The summer camp is designed to inspire young artists through hands-on activities and creative exploration.
Registration is $35 for members and $50 for non-members. The deadline to register is July 15.

Wesley Roach, residente de Alpine, ha fallecido tras una larga enfermedad. Tenía 73 años.
Wes nació en Big Lake, Texas, pero en 1963 su familia se mudó a Alpine; allí asistió a las escuelas públicas y se graduó de la escuela preparatoria Alpine High School en 1972. Fue uno de los miembros originales de los “hermanos Roach” y se le conocía por su carácter travieso y su espíritu aventurero, rasgos que conservó durante toda su vida.
Wes se casó con Patty Bennack, su novia de la preparatoria, en 1975. A partir de mañana (miércoles) y durante toda la semana, el Centro de Desarrollo de Pequeñas Empresas (SBDC, por sus siglas en inglés) de la Universidad Estatal Sul Ross ofrecerá una serie de sesiones de capacitación para que los propietarios de negocios mejoren su labor y descubran nuevas formas de gestionar sus empresas.
El primer curso en línea le enseñará todo lo necesario para elaborar una declaración de capacidades (*capability statement*) eficaz. Puede considerar estas declaraciones como el currículum de su empresa: se trata de un documento de una sola página que resume las competencias de su negocio al buscar contratos gubernamentales. En este seminario web de una hora, conocerá cinco aspectos clave para redactar una declaración completa.
El seminario web tendrá lugar mañana, miércoles 24 de junio, de 1:00 p. m. a 2:30 p. m.
El jueves, podrá aprender a crear su propio sitio web. Esta capacitación se impartirá el 25 de junio, de 2:00 p. m. a 3:00 p. m.
Por último, el viernes se ofrecerá el curso de cierre de la semana, centrado en los errores clave que debe evitar al hacer crecer su negocio. Esta sesión de una hora se llevará a cabo el viernes 26 de junio, de 10:00 a. m. a 11:00 a. m.

Más adelante este verano, el Borderlands Research Institute (BRI) de Sul Ross organizará una conferencia de tres días centrada en abordar desafíos, fortalecer alianzas y conservar las tierras para apoyar a la vida silvestre en todo Texas.
El BRI, junto con la Texas Wildlife Association y el Texas Parks and Wildlife, reunirá a propietarios de tierras, expertos de la industria y conservacionistas con intereses afines para tratar temas emergentes en la región de Trans-Pecos, la investigación y gestión de especies de caza mayor y otras especies, la gestión aplicada y la administración responsable de la tierra.

El Museum of the Big Bend invita a niños de entre 4 y 10 años a explorar su creatividad durante el campamento anual de arte de verano del museo.
El campamento se desarrollará del 20 al 24 de julio en el Centro de Eventos Culturales del museo, ubicado en el campus de la Universidad Estatal Sul Ross.
