Graveside services for Roy Thomas McBride will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Elm Grove Cemetery.
He died May 24, on a ranch near Alpine at almost 87 years old. He had lived in Alpine most of his life.
He was an international wildlife biologist, entrepreneur, inventor, manufacturer and rancher and married Jere Jean Johnson of San Antonio in 1957.
Roy also owned and operated a cattle ranch in the Chinati Mountains south of Marfa.
A graduate of Sul Ross State University with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in wildlife biology, Roy had formerly attended Texas A&M on a football scholarship.
He was one of the original “Junction Boys” who played under Bear Bryant until his initial career in trapping led him to south and west Texas where he finished his studies.
Surviving are three children, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Alpine Christian School.

The U.S. House bill to deal with the debt ceiling that passed Wednesday night can provide a big boost to oil and gas production, including in the Texas Permian Basin.
It includes an amendment by Congressman August Pfluger of San Angelo that he said could spur nearly $200 billion in direct investment and create more than 225,000 jobs by 2035.
Pfluger, whose district includes the Permian Basin, said the National Environmental Policy Act under the E.P.A. has been weaponized against the oil and gas industry.
He said a 2017 study found $157 billion in energy investment was stuck in the pipeline and that a simple two-year deadline would spur $67 billion in energy investment.
Pfluger said his amendment sets the stage for free-market permitting policies which would support an additional $27 billion of gross domestic product by 2035.
Artwalk Alpine is hosting a Pachanga Fundraiser party at the Granada Theatre Saturday, June 17, with food, drinks and music starting at 7 p.m.
The event will benefit Artwalk Alpine’s 30th Anniversary, art education scholarships and resources and Alpine community development through citywide murals.
Artwalk Alpine founder Kerri Blackman said the party theme for the fundraiser was set as a marker of the three decades Artwalk has been around.
Blackman: “We’re calling it a Pachanga because it’s our 30th annual party. I kind of had to wrap my mind around ‘we’re having a party. We’ve been doing this for 30 years.’”
The Pachanga will have Tacos, Tamales, Sangrias, Margaritas and beer available with music beginning at 7 by Ruben V. followed by a concert by Joe King Carrasco at 9.
Blackman said having a concert by Joe King Carrasco influenced the Alpine Humane Society partnership where if you adopt a pet from June 10 through the 17, your ticket is free.
Blackman: “Joe King is a big dog lover, animal lover and so he has his own foundation in Mexico. It’s fostering dogs, pets, and so we thought we’d team up with the humane society and see if anyone want to adopt a pet.”
Otherwise, pre-sale tickets will be $15 each or $20 at the door.
