The Marathon Water Supply and Sewer Service has planned a water-main repair for Tuesday next week that could leave the entire community without water during the repair. And until water service is resumed, residents will be required to boil water for consumption. Continue to boil water until laboratory samples show that the water is safe and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality issues a rescind notice.
Water customers have received public notices which also have been posted in Marathon for further instructions.
All water should be boiled before consumption, including washing hands and face, brushing teeth, drinking and the like. To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking and ice making should be boiled and cooled before use for drinking or other human consumption.
Children, seniors and those with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria and all customers should follow directions.
The water service asks that friends, neighbors and family are all told so that all can be prepared.
In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking or other human uses.
When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking or other human consumption.

Alpine police have reported the stabbing of a 21-year-old male Sunday, reportedly by a 16-year- old male in the 2000 block of Peach Tree Circle in west Alpine.
Officers responded to Big Bend Regional Hospital where the victim was taken for treatment. The victim was airlifted to an El Paso hospital but he was later reported to have been released. The juvenile was investigated and is awaiting disposition of a continuing investigation.
Alumni of Alpine High School have been invited to a picnic lunch from 11 to 1 on Thursday, July 4, at Kokernot Municipal Park at the corner of Fightin’ Buck and Marfa Avenues.
The students of who attended during the 1970s are invited and asked to bring something to drink and a picnic and enjoy visits with old Bucks friends.
And a meeting place is being organized so alumni can gather to watch fireworks after dark that evening.
The community celebration of Independence Day is being organized by a group of non-profits who have taken over from Rhonda Cole and the Kiwanis Club at their request. More on that in newscasts to come.
And an A.H.S. Homecoming is being organized for October 9 through 12 pending School Board approval.
Planned are a bonfire, the Bucks football game, the High School Band Half Time show and other gatherings in Alpine that cool Fall weekend.
It will be another opportunity for a time together with all the overlapping classes of the 1970s and other gatherings in Alpine that cool fall weekend. Other possible activities currently being planned are a dance, tours of both the 1970s High School Buildings, climbing “A” Hill and, most importantly, spending time with old friends.
The Big Bend Amateur Radio Club has invited the public to join it for its 50 th Field Day Saturday at the Double Diamond Pavilion eight miles south of Alpine on Highway 118 south.
It will have a Get On The Air Station manned by a licensed Ham Radio operator for the public to help us make as many contacts as we can with other Hams in North America. The 24-hour event will be from 1 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday.

La policía de Alpine informó del apuñalamiento de un hombre de 21 años el domingo, supuestamente por parte de un hombre de 16 años en la cuadra 2000 de Peach Tree Circle en el oeste de Alpine.
