Forecasters with the National Weather Service say tomorrow will be the hottest day this week, with much of the region seeing temperature highs near or above 100 degrees.
David Hennig is a forecaster with the weather service’s Midland office.
“Upper level reach” means pretty hot and dry weather for us.
HENNIG1: “A lot of the area on Tuesday with the westerly winds are going to see some pretty hot temperatures exceeding 100 degrees and most of the lower elevations but even in the mountains getting easily in the upper 90s.” (0:15)
With the extreme heat, Hennig says it’s important to take all the necessary precautions.
HENNIG2: “Really just make sure that you have plenty of water available and if at all possible find some shade. Be careful if you’re doing any strenuous work outdoors not to overexert yourself and you should be fine.” (0:12)
Hennig says he doesn’t expect we’ll see any rain in the coming days. By Wednesday, afternoon highs throughout the Big Bend should drop by a few degrees, and by the end of this week, we should expect to see temperatures in the lower 90s and 80s.

The Alpine City Council meets tomorrow to consider, among other agenda items, a city leadership transition plan.
The discussion comes after last week when council members accepted Megan Antrim’s resignation as city manager. At the same time, the council also voted to appoint city secretary Geo Calderon as the interim city manager.
Officials are also set to discuss the job description for the city manager position and recommend updates prior to posting the position.
City council meets tomorrow (TUESDAY) at 5:30 at 803 W. Holland Avenue.

On Saturday, June 21, Visit Alpine presents International Make Music Day, a holiday that encourages everyone to make and enjoy music together.
The full day of activities includes a beginners harmonica workshop at the Alpine Farmers Market starting at 9 a.m. and an open mic at Cow Dog food truck and café from noon to 4 p.m. There will also be a show from 4 to 7 p.m. at Amigo Sports Bar featuring local musicians Tom Griffith and Wind, the Swifts, and the Far West Texas Jammers, and a community music circle hosted by Ross Fleming at The Ritchey from 7 to 10 p.m.

Big Bend National Park is looking for a volunteer to staff this Chisos Basin Visitor Center this summer.
The volunteer will work at the Chisos Basin Visitor Center for 32 hours each week, ensuring visitors have a safe and enjoyable visit and know the park rules and regulations. Volunteers also collect entrance fees, write backcountry permits and operate the small bookstore located within the Chisos Basin Visitor Center.
A free RV site with full hookups will be provided to the volunteer.

Los meteorólogos del Servicio Meteorológico Nacional afirman que mañana será el día más caluroso de la semana, con temperaturas máximas cercanas o superiores a los 38 grados Celsius en gran parte de la región.
David Hennig es meteorólogo de la oficina de Midland del servicio meteorológico.
Un “nivel superior” significa un clima bastante caluroso y seco para nosotros.
Menciono,que el martes, con los vientos del oeste, gran parte de la zona experimentará temperaturas bastante altas que superarán los 38 grados Celsius, y en la mayoría de las zonas bajas, e incluso en las montañas, se alcanzarán fácilmente los 32 grados Celsius”.
Con el calor extremo, Hennig recomienda tomar todas las precauciones necesarias.
Menciono tambien que: “Simplemente asegúrense de tener suficiente agua disponible y, si es posible, busquen un poco de sombra. Si realizan trabajos extenuantes al aire libre, tengan cuidado de no esforzarse demasiado y no deberían tener problemas”.
Hennig dice que no espera lluvia en los próximos días. Para el miércoles, las temperaturas máximas de la tarde en Big Bend deberían bajar algunos grados, y para finales de esta semana, deberíamos esperar temperaturas entre 32 y 27 grados.

El Parque Nacional Big Bend busca un voluntario para el personal del Centro de Visitantes de la Cuenca de Chisos este verano. El voluntario trabajará en el Centro de Visitantes de la Cuenca de Chisos durante 32 horas semanales, asegurándose de que los visitantes tengan una visita segura y agradable, y que conozcan las normas y regulaciones del parque.
