Tomorrow (TUESDAY) evening, the city of Alpine will hold its next council meeting.
According to an agenda, council members are set to approve a resolution appointing Clarinda Espinoza as the interim city secretary. The city’s previous city secretary was fired from the position last month (JUNE) after being arrested – he’s now facing multiple charges including possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.
During tomorrow’s (TUESDAY’S) meeting, city leaders will also discuss and potentially approve of an agreement with Alpine ISD over the use and management Manual Payne Field.
The city council meets Tuesday, July 7 at 5:30 p.m.

This week will be another hot one in West Texas as meteorologists with the National Weather Service say we can expect to see warmer and drier conditions over the next few days.
Afternoon highs this week will reach the mid to upper-90s for most of the Big Bend area with a slight chance of thunderstorms.

Tomorrow (TUESDAY), the free summer concert series “Music Under the Stars” kicks off at Kokernot Lodge in Alpine.
Bring your own chair and pack your refreshments Tuesday night as the band the Latecomers take center stage from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m.
The free concert series continues every Tuesday in July. The event is free and open to the public.

This week, the Fort Leaton Historic site near Presidio will host “My name is Mud…or is it… Adobe,” a workshop where you can learn to make your own adobe bricks and plaster.
Fort Leaton is considered the largest adobe structure in the state of Texas and you can help maintain the historic building on Wednesday when maintenance rangers plaster its walls and repair adobe bricks that have eroded.
The workshop is Wednesday, July 8 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Make sure to bring water, sun protection and clothing you don’t mind getting dirty.
The event is included with your park entry fee – it’s $5 per person 13 and older and free for anyone younger than 12.

Beginning Wednesday and continuing through next week, the Small Business Development Center at Sul Ross State University will host several training sessions for business owners looking to improve and expand their work.
The first online course is Wednesday, July 8, and will teach you how to use the program NotebookLM to make sense of your business documents. From proposals and contracts to meeting notes, NotebookLM can provide you with clear insights and action plans. That training will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to noon.
Then next week, join SBDC for a training session to help you and your team reach a QUOTE “multicultural understanding and integration.” That training will be Monday, July 13 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
The next training being offered is a two-part session that starts Tuesday, July 14. This session will take you through the basics of bookkeeping, including common terminology, recordkeeping practices, and teach you why accurate financial records are essential. That training is next Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The follow-up training will be Thursday, July 16 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and will show you how to organize and monitor your business income and expenses.

On Friday, the nonprofit Historic Alpine invites the public to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Archives of the Big Bend at Sul Ross State University.
Enjoy an evening of conversation, refreshments, historic displays, and shared memories as the group honors the Archives of the Big Bend and the people who have helped preserve the region’s history.
The celebration is July 10 starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Bryan Wildenthal Memorial Library on the Sul Ros campus.

Mañana martes por la tarde, la ciudad de Alpine celebrará su próxima reunión del concejo municipal.
Según el orden del día, los miembros del concejo tienen previsto aprobar una resolución para nombrar a Clarinda Espinoza como secretaria municipal interina. El anterior secretario municipal fue destituido de su cargo el mes pasado (junio) tras ser arrestado; actualmente enfrenta múltiples cargos, entre ellos posesión de una sustancia controlada y resistencia al arresto.
Durante la reunión de mañana martes, las autoridades municipales también debatirán y posiblemente aprobarán un acuerdo con el Distrito Escolar Independiente de Alpine (Alpine ISD) sobre el uso y la gestión del campo Manual Payne Field.
El concejo municipal se reunirá el martes 7 de julio a las 5:30 p. m.

Fort Leaton está considerada la estructura de adobe más grande del estado de Texas; usted podrá ayudar en el mantenimiento del edificio histórico este miércoles, cuando los guardaparques encargados del mantenimiento apliquen revoque a las paredes y reparen los ladrillos de adobe erosionados.
El taller se llevará a cabo el miércoles 8 de julio, de 10:00 a 11:00 a. m.
Asegúrese de llevar agua, protección solar y ropa que no le importe ensuciar.

A partir de este miércoles y durante la próxima semana, el Centro de Desarrollo de Pequeñas Empresas (SBDC, por sus siglas en inglés) de la Universidad Estatal Sul Ross organizará varias sesiones de capacitación para propietarios de negocios que deseen mejorar y ampliar sus operaciones.
El primer curso en línea tendrá lugar el miércoles 8 de julio y enseñará a utilizar el programa NotebookLM para analizar y comprender mejor la documentación de su empresa. Desde propuestas y contratos hasta notas de reuniones, NotebookLM puede ofrecerle información clave y planes de acción. Esta capacitación se impartirá el miércoles, de 11:00 a. m. a 12:00 del mediodía.
La próxima semana, únase al SBDC en una sesión de capacitación diseñada para ayudarle a usted y a su equipo a lograr —citando textualmente— una “comprensión e integración multicultural”. Dicha sesión se llevará a cabo el lunes 13 de julio, de 10:00 a 11:00 a. m.
La siguiente capacitación que se ofrece consta de dos partes y comienza el martes 14 de julio. Esta sesión abordará los fundamentos de la contabilidad básica, incluyendo la terminología común y las prácticas de registro, además de explicar por qué es esencial mantener registros financieros precisos. La primera parte será el próximo martes, de 10:00 a 11:00 a. m. La sesión de continuación tendrá lugar el jueves 16 de julio, también de 10:00 a 11:00 a. m., y mostrará cómo organizar y monitorear los ingresos y gastos de su negocio.
