Arlene Dutchover Guerrero, of Fort Davis, passed away peacefully earlier this week, surrounded by her beloved family. She was 54.
Arlene was born in Alpine, Texas to Maria and Elias Dutchover. She grew up in Fort Davis, and graduated from Fort Davis High School in 1990. At just 18 years old, she answered the call to serve her country by enlisting in the United States Army. During her military service, she proudly served in Operation Desert Storm.
While stationed overseas, Arlene married her first husband in Denmark in 1992. Later that year, while they were stationed in Germany, they welcomed their first son, Adrian Glidewell. Arlene returned to the U.S. in 1993, where she devoted herself to raising her children: Adrian, Kylie and Neil.
She was a hardworking woman who spent time working at Poco Mexico, her family’s restaurant, cleaning cabins at Bloys campmeeting, selling insurance, working at the Fort Davis Inn, and making countless memories with her many friends and family.
In 2004, Arlene met the love of her life, Gustavo Guerrero. Together they built a life filled with love and welcomed their daughter, Juliet. Gustavo was her greatest companion and some of Arlene’s happiest days were those spent by his side. She passed away peacefully beside the love of her life.
Arlene will be remembered for her strength, her dedication to her family, her service to her country, but mostly her loud contagious laugh and her bright red lipstick.
She is survived by her parents Maria and Elias Dutchover; her husband Gustavo Guerrero; her two daughters; her two sons; six grandchildren; three siblings and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Services for Arlene are Saturday, Aug. 1 at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Fort Davis from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

From stories on the region’s deep, prehistoric history to tales of the frontier and the interviews with the people still calling the Big Bend home, Wild Yeti has produced award-winning, documentary-style videos of life in Far West Texas.
In an interview with KVLF, Wild Yeti’s founder CEO Grant Kauffman talked about the inspiration he draws from the Big Bend.
KAUFFMAN1: “Every time I’m out there, it speaks to me. And sometimes that sounds weird to people, but the desert it’s almost like it creates this thing where I have to tell stories about it. It’s a very bizarre, spiritual thing. But I do, I just need to tell the stories of it – I’m just drawn to it.” (0:15)
Fort Davis resident Randall Kinzie is a producer for Wild Yeti and has worked on their regional series “Expedition: Tales of the Big Bend.”
KINZIE1: “What I do know the people and I do know the land, having grown up here. So the characters and the subjects you see on Expedition Tales of the Big Bend on Wild Yeti TV on Youtube, they’re true-to-life characters and I’ve known some of them my whole life.” (0:18)

To celebrate the fading days of Summer, the Alpine Public Library is bringing together over 30 vehicles this weekend for the first-ever “Touch a Truck” event!
During the event, you’ll be able to get an up close look at all kinds of vehicles – from law enforcement vehicles and a fire truck to a garbage truck and a school bus and TxDOT vehicles too.
The “Touch a Truck” event takes place this weekend on Saturday, Aug. 1 at the Alpine Public Library from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

This weekend, the Judd Foundation in Marfa is hosting a Star Party with McDonald Observatory.
The night of star gazing includes food, music and a constellation talk with Ryan Cantrell of McDonald Observatory.
The celebration of the nighttime sky starts on Sunday, August 2 7:00 p.m. at the Block, located at 400 W. El Paso Street in Marfa.

Next week, the 26th annual Big Bend Ranch Rodeo kicks off at the S.A.L.E. Arena in Alpine.
The event starts Friday, August 7 with a rodeo performance at 7:00 p.m. That weekend will be full of other activities like a youth rodeo performance, a youth dummy roping contest and live music.

Arlene Dutchover Guerrero, residente de Fort Davis, falleció pacíficamente a principios de esta semana, rodeada de su amada familia. Tenía 54 años.
Arlene nació en Alpine, Texas, hija de Maria y Elias Dutchover. Creció en Fort Davis y se graduó de la escuela Fort Davis High School en 1990. A los 18 años, respondió al llamado de servir a su país al alistarse en el Ejército de los Estados Unidos. Durante su servicio militar, participó con orgullo en la Operación Tormenta del Desierto.
Mientras estaba destinada en el extranjero, Arlene contrajo matrimonio con su primer esposo en Dinamarca en 1992. Más tarde ese mismo año, mientras ambos estaban destacados en Alemania, nació su primer hijo, Adrian Glidewell. Arlene será recordada por su fortaleza, su dedicación a la familia y su servicio al país, pero sobre todo por su risa sonora y contagiosa, así como por su labial rojo intenso.
Le sobreviven sus padres, Maria y Elias Dutchover; su esposo, Gustavo Guerrero; sus dos hijas; sus dos hijos; seis nietos; tres hermanos y numerosos primos, sobrinas y sobrinos.
Los servicios en honor a Arlene se llevarán a cabo el sábado 1 de agosto en la iglesia católica Saint Joseph de Fort Davis, de 10:00 a. m. a 12:30 p. m.

Para celebrar los últimos días del verano, la Biblioteca Pública de Alpine reunirá a más de 30 vehículos este fin de semana en su primer evento “Touch a Truck” (donde los asistentes pueden tocar y explorar los vehículos).
