The City of Alpine posted on its web site this week that owners of historical or other qualified commercial buildings may apply for a freeze in values when significant repairs are needed.
The land and building will have an annual assessed value equal to the tax year immediately before the repairs began and for the next three years after work is completed.
To take advantage of the offer, the site must need repair or renovation of more than 15 percent of the assessed value and not less than five thousand dollars. The notice is on the city website at CityofAlpine.com, see News and Announcements.
The Theatre of the Big Bend’s 59th season opens this weekend with “Sherwood: The Adventures of Robin Hood” by Ken Ludwig starting Friday at the Kokernot Outdoor Theatre.
Based on the English ballads of the 14th and 15th centuries, this comic version of the classic story shows how Robin Hood becomes the famous vigilante and leader of the Merry Men.
The play includes other classic characters like Friar Tuck, Maid Marian and Little John.
Director and Associate Professor of Communication Bret Scott said Robin Hood is an outlaw with a moral code and a sense of humor and this show highlights that.
There are laughs, romance, surprise twists and plenty of sword fights and archery,
Sherwood was originally produced by The Old Globe Theatre at the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre in San Diego.
Marjie Scott, producer and chair of the Visual and Performing Arts at Sul Ross, said they bring in professional actors and alums to work alongside current theatre students.
This provides students with guidance and a professional model to follow as well as the opportunity to collaborate with working actors in the field.
Theatre of the Big Bend’s production runs Thursday through Sunday through July 28, at the Kokernot Outdoor Theatre.
All performances begin at 8 and tickets are 20 dollars for adults and 15 for children 12 and under and seniors 65 and over. Admission is free for U.S. veterans.

Presidio County Sheriff’s deputies have been working with other agencies to prevent the illegal entry of horses from Mexico into Texas.
They are working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Texas Animal Health Commission to prevent known illegal crossings along the River Road, Highway 170.
Some horses have been detained and seized by the Sheriff’s office this month.
This action was taken because of the failure to provide proper ownership documentation and Coggins testing as required by the Texas Agriculture Code. Coggins tests check for symptoms of Equine Infectious Anemia.
The Alpine Public Library used Facebook to remind guests to sign up for First Wednesday Yoga at the library. This monthly free class will take place from 3:30 to 4:30 Wednesday. Guests are asked to bring their own mat if they have one. You can sign up at the library. For more information call 837-2621.
The Marfa Presbyterian Church at 110 East Commerce Street at the corner of Fort Davis Highway plans a community event on the church lawn Sunday. Entertainment will be by Hall’s Last Call band. Guests should bring their own cooler. It will be from 5 to 7:30 Sunday, July 7.
