Last night, the Alpine City Council unanimously approved the job description for the city manager position.
Council discussed several changes to the description during Tuesday’s meeting. And with the description’s approval, the city will begin the search for a permanent city manager.
City secretary Geo Calderon is the interim city manager. He told the city council the job opening would be posted soon.
quote: Yes, again, I think the best course of action would be at least 30 days, and then see what kind of applicants we get, then the council can determine if they want to move forward any of them, or if we need to go off for executive approval.”
At the end of the meeting, the council also unanimously approved the appointment of Mike Macias as the director of public utilities for the city.

The National Weather Service in Midland says the risk for heavy rain and flash flooding continues today (WEDNESDAY) and tomorrow (THURSDAY).
Forecasters say you’ll want to exercise caution and avoid driving through any flooded roadways.
The region will likely see rain chances continue through the Fourth of July. The latest forecast shows a slight chance for showers Friday morning – the likelihood it will rain will increase in the afternoon. Otherwise expect a partly sunny day with a high near 85 degrees.

The Centennial School reunion starts tomorrow (THURSDAY) and continues through the weekend.
Centennial School was one of the many de facto segregated schools across the Southwest where Hispanic children were taught.
The three-day reunion starts tomorrow (THURSDAY) at 2 p.m. at the former school, where alumni will tour the building. Then on Friday, alumni will take part in the Fourth of July parade, and later that evening there will be a tealight memorial ceremony to honor Centennial alumni that have died.
Other events include a nighttime dance at Centennial Park and a luncheon at the civic center.

This weekend in Terlingua, the Far Flung Outdoor Center is hosting a Big Bend luau.
On Saturday, from 2 to 8 p.m., head to the center for a Big Bend luau. There will be a corn hole tournament benefiting the Big Bend Public Library, a hula shirt contest, a tropical photobooth and a silent auction benefiting the Big Bend Citizens Alliance.
There will also be food, drinks and music. Food tickets $15 for adults, and kids under 12 can enjoy a free meal with their parents’ food ticket.

The Big Bend Arts Council is looking for artists to contribute to its next show, “Clay Works” which opens in August.
The artwork must be original, handcrafted by the artist and consist of at least 75% fired clay. Artists have until July 29 to submit up to three pieces. Other rules for submission say the artwork must have been completed within the last two years, and art in a BBAC show will not be accepted.
A reception for the event is Friday, August 1.

Anoche, el Ayuntamiento de Alpine aprobó por unanimidad la descripción del puesto de administrador municipal.
El Ayuntamiento discutió varios cambios a la descripción durante la reunión del martes. Con la aprobación de la descripción, la ciudad comenzará la búsqueda de un administrador municipal permanente.
El secretario municipal, Geo Calderón, es el administrador municipal interino. Informó al Ayuntamiento que la vacante se publicaría pronto.

La reunión de tres días comienza mañana (JUEVES) a las 2 p. m. en la antigua escuela, donde los exalumnos visitarán el edificio. El viernes, los exalumnos participarán en el desfile del 4 de Julio y, más tarde esa noche, se realizará una ceremonia conmemorativa con velas para honrar a los exalumnos de Centennial fallecidos.
Otros eventos incluyen un baile nocturno en el Parque Centennial y un almuerzo en el centro cívico.

Este fin de semana en Terlingua, el Centro al Aire Libre Far Flung organizará un luau en Big Bend.
El sábado, de 2 p. m. a 8 p. m., visite el centro para disfrutar de un luau en Big Bend. Habrá un torneo de corn hole a beneficio de la Biblioteca Pública de Big Bend, un concurso de camisetas de hula hula, un fotomatón tropical y una subasta silenciosa a beneficio de la Alianza Ciudadana de Big Bend.
También habrá comida, bebidas y música. Los boletos de comida cuestan $15 para adultos y los niños menores de 12 años pueden disfrutar de una comida gratis con el boleto de comida de sus padres.

El Consejo de Artes de Big Bend busca artistas que contribuyan a su próxima exposición, “Obras de Arcilla”, que se inaugura en agosto.
La obra debe ser original, hecha a mano por el artista y compuesta al menos en un 75 % de arcilla cocida. Los artistas tienen hasta el 29 de julio para enviar hasta tres piezas. Otras reglas de envío indican que la obra debe haberse completado en los últimos dos años y no se aceptarán obras que formen parte de una exposición del Consejo de Artes de Big Bend.
La recepción del evento tendrá lugar el viernes 1 de agosto.
