The event will cover the basic biology of the parasitic fly, inspection tips and treatment options for livestock and wildlife.

The Sunshine House in Alpine is looking for contributors for its community cookbook “Wild West Flavors: Recipes from Alpine and Marathon, Texas.”
Share your favorite recipes and support the nonprofit, which serves seniors and the homebound in north Brewster County. All proceeds from the cookbook will benefit the Sunshine House’s Meals On Wheels program.
You can pick up your recipe submission form at the Sunshine House in Alpine, located at 402 East Holland Avenue.
The deadline to get your submissions in is Thursday, July 30 at noon.

On Friday, the Big Bend Gallery holds a reception for its next show “Clay Works.”
The reception will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring a snack or drink. If you know anyone on the reception committee, let them know what you intend to bring.

On Saturday, join local artist Ramon Deanda as he paints a mural in Alpine with the help of community members of all ages.
The mural will be painted at Baker’s Dozen Donuts near the Elementary School on Saturday, Aug. 1 at 7:00 p.m. The mural will relate to a “sister mural” Deanda has painted in Presidio – and, together, the two artworks will connect the towns, celebrating culture, history and the heart of Far West Texas.

Next week, the Alpine City Council will host a budget workshop and regular council meeting.
According to an agenda for next week’s meeting, the budget workshop will cover a review of revenues and expenses. That’s set to begin at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Afterwards, the local officials will hold their regular city council meeting, which is set to include a discussion on potentially installing a stop sign at South Ragin Street and East Avenue I. Council will also receive a department update from Fire Chief James Etchison. The council meeting starts Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Next week, head to the Marathon Songwriters Festival, a three-day celebration of song and story in Far West Texas.
The annual event brings intimate solo performances by well-known musicians and master songwriters. This year’s lineup includes Wade Bowen, Adam Wright, Leslie Jordan, and Drew Kennedy.
The songwriter festival starts Aug. 6.

Next week, the Alpine Public Library will host the behavioral and developmental health group Permicare.
The event is free and open to the public and for anyone who wants to learn more about mental health.
Members of the Permicare team will be at the library sharing services to help adults and children who are struggling with, or managing and improving their mental health on their own. Permicare visits the Alpine Public Library on Friday, August 7 at 4:30 p.m. in the community room.

Comparta sus recetas favoritas y apoye a esta organización sin fines de lucro, que presta servicios a personas mayores y a aquellas confinadas en sus hogares en el norte del condado de Brewster. Todos los fondos recaudados con el libro se destinarán al programa “Meals on Wheels” (Comidas sobre Ruedas) de The Sunshine House.

La próxima semana, el Concejo Municipal de Alpine celebrará un taller sobre el presupuesto y su reunión ordinaria.
