Online registration for the Alpine Independent School District for the 2023-24 school year is now open until July 27.
All Alpine students new and returning will need to complete the online registration at Alpine-dot-E.S.C.-18-dot-net-slash-registration.
An in-person registration support session will be available from 8:30 to 11:30 and 1:30 to 3:30 Tuesday through Thursday next week at the Alpine High School Library.

The Borderlands Research Institute at Sul Ross State University has established a new endowment fund that will support big game research into the future.
Viva Big Bend, one of the Red-Letter events of our region, is coming up again next week, Wednesday through Sunday.
The annual multi-venue concert series has published the schedule for this year’s festival featuring more than 65 shows and multiple venues.
This twelfth year, Viva Big Bend will include more than 15 venues in Alpine, Marfa, Marathon, Fort Davis, Terlingua and for the first time in Presidio.
Bands and musicians with a wide variety of styles are expected to be showcased around the Tri-County area.
Venues include the Granada Theatre, Starlight Theater, Holland Hotel, Gage Hotel, Kelly Pavilion, Cibolo Creek, Hotel Richey, Planet Marfa, Spicewood and many more.

Another training session by the Sul Ross Small Business Development Center is on tap for this week.
The Brewster County Republican Women’s Club has two upcoming events this weekend in Terlingua and Alpine for Victor Avila, their candidate for our Congressional District.
In Terlingua, there will be a Meet and Greet at 7 Saturday at La Kiva on Highway 170.
They will meet at either the Cave Room or Garden Room and visible signs will indicate the correct location.
Refreshments will not be provided but guests are free to dine and drink while at La Kiva.
Another Meet and Greet will be at Kokernot Field in Alpine at 7 Sunday evening.
They will meet at the grassy knoll east of the main gates to the baseball stadium.
The concession stand will open at 4:15 so refreshments and baseball game food will be available.
Avila, who is running against Tony Gonzales for the Republican Nomination, will represent Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the game honoring law enforcement.

Meanwhile, Congressman Gonzales has introduced the H-2 Improvements to Relieve Employers Act, or HIRE, with 15 bipartisan, original cosponsors.
The Act would strengthen temporary work visa programs, address the national workforce shortage and remedy the nation’s broken immigration system.
Gonzales, who represents 119 cities in Texas, said one thing that unites communities from urban cores to rural communities is a desperate need for labor.
He said solutions like temporary work visa programs are riddled with red tape, making it difficult for employers to fully staff up.
Gonzales said we need to strengthen and streamline work visa options, which is precisely what the HIRE Act seeks to do.
