Good evening, today is Tuesday, January 3rd, and I’m Hector Montemayor-Perez.

City Tourism Director Chris Ruggia has invited organizations that use city Hotel Occupancy Taxes to help fund local events to a session to pick times and dates.

The session to lay out regional event dates for the next 12 months will be in the Holland Hotel lobby as usual, at 5:30 Tuesday, January 24.

Ruggia asked those who cannot attend to send the event dates for the next year and he will compile them and later share them with everyone.

The next Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Gathering will be in person February 17 and 18 on the campus of Sul Ross State University and other venues in Alpine.

The second in-person Gathering since the Pandemic, it is designed to preserve the western culture through the work of some of the best cowboy poets and musicians in the country.

For 33 years, the Texas Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Alpine was a destination not to be missed but that gathering ended in February, 2019.

Determined not to let the tradition of cowboy poetry in this region die out, a group of volunteers formed a new organization, the Lone Star Cowboy Poetry Gathering.

The inaugural Lone Star Gathering was in February, 2020, but the pandemic prevented the in-person Gathering in 2021.

Instead, the Lone Star Board produced two feature-length films, each featuring five cowboy poets on their ranches.

The first in-person Gathering since the pandemic was in 2022 and was considered a big success.
