Light snow and freezing rain fell over much of West Texas overnight, most of it north and east of here.

One of the more serious highway accidents in the area was reported near the Interstates 10 and 20 split northwest of Fort Davis.

It was reported in both Reeves and Jeff Davis Counties involving more than a dozen vehicles.

The split is just inside Reeves County and Reeves County joined Texas D.P.S in responding to the accident. We did not get any reports of fatalities but multiple injuries were reported.

The freezing rain has been projected to move east from here. But precautions while driving is always a good idea.

A Valentine school teacher was sentenced to 20 years in prison and 15 years of supervised release in federal court in Alpine last week for distributing child sexual abuse material.

The 60-year-old Albert Douglas Ackley was convicted of uploading and sharing ten files containing child sexual abuse material over a mobile messaging app.

At the time of the investigation, Ackley had been teaching math to grades seven through 12 at a local public school.

Ackley was arrested last March 15 and has remained in federal custody. He pleaded guilty in August to one count of distribution of child pornography.

The Alpine Volunteer Fire Department called the Marathon department for help late Monday night with a house that was fully-engulfed in fire in Sunny Glenn.

The fire at 12 Rim Road was extinguished after a long battle by firefighters. No individuals or emergency service personnel were injured.

The Big Bend Arts Council offers half-day art workshops open to all at the Holy Cross Education Room at 903 Fightin’ Buck Avenue from 11 to 2 Saturdays through March 11.

The council also is providing a three-day Pastel Workshop taught by Nancy Lilly May 19 to 21.

It will be on how to develop a textural working surface and an underpainting, how to handle shadows and how to depict various cacti in the brilliantly-lit high desert terrain.
